Im being told you can read the serial number to find out its age / manufacturing date? Is that true?

Also noticed that model#'s are listed as MB1000 and MB1000A. Is the A the revised version of the Tech Series?

Im debating on two Tech 1000's. I noticed that one has the chrome that goes over the entire front lip and the other has a small chrome lip cover for the drawers. Im just curious to see if one is older than the other? I noticed that also some of the draw depth are different from one another as well.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have it in front of me but I'm pretty sure the year it was built is part of the serial number. That or it's a coincidence.
I'm not sure what you mean about the chrome but mine is about 12 years old & has what looks like chrome colored plastic drawer pulls. There's a thread about them on here that says new ones are metal. I'll look closer at those couple things at work tomorrow.

Do they both say tech on them? If the one with more chrome also has the deeper drawers may be the small macsimizer. I was curious & googled the model numbers. Mb1000A came up as the current tech 1000. Mb1000 had a couple posts for macsimizers.

I have a few friends who have Mac Toolboxes as well and they've held up pretty well. Im not using it for professional use but want one thats going to last forever! Curious why arent you using it anymore?

I believe reading somewhere if it start with a letter than number (example: V2) its an older box in the 90's. If it starts with number and than letter (example 4C) its a newer box in the 00's +.

As for the chrome pulls the older one if basing it off of the above statement has a chrome plastic lip pull that just clips on the drawer lip. The newer one wraps around the entire lip and top of the drawer. Hard to explain but Ill see if I can get pictures of both.

They both state Tech1000 on them so I dont think its the maximizer. Would have been nice if it was! lol I believe the MB1000A is the newer model from what I am seeing.

Mine starts with 003 & was made around 03. It's a 1080 so the numbering might be different.
