This.... I work with one good mechanic, and one half-bright one. I'm looking to keep it in tune ...
And this. Could be bad news. Be very careful if you or your mechanics decide to do a tune up on that detroit, especially if it's an older 6-53 or 6-71 2-stroke diesel. If they don't set the fuel rack correctly, they can and will run away, and you will end up putting an engine into the truck. Not many people work on old detoits anymore, it's getting harder and harder to find someone who knows what they are doing on those, and tuning them is done just as much by ear as by the book.Hey, I'm back with more info. it's a Ford F9000. Detroit Deisel, 6 cylinder engine. Don't know if that was OEM or not. It does have other ford components.
And yes, that detroit was probably factory. Usually you had the option of Cummins, Cat 3208, or Detroit when you ordered the truck. Depending on the year, I've probably got parts and service manuals for both the chassis and the engine.
Edit: If you are serious about doing a tune up, be aware that there are a ton of specialty tools required for setting the rack and the like, depending on which 6V series engine it is.
