Any Mercedes techs here?

Hey guys, just got a job as a tech for Mercedes. I was looking to get some insight from any techs that are currently working for Benz, and what special tools you needed to get for these cars. Really just looking for info all around as this is my first european dealership venture, even though I work on euros all the time on the side. Also, pics of your workstation and tools would be a cool addition too!

My neighbor is a long time MB dealer tech, sorry to say he hates it, all module swapping and screwing the customer. Maybe it varies from dealer to dealer, location and position within the service dept?

Best way is you start your job and start making list from there.

Torx and inverted torx sockets. You will use them daily. I find 1/4 universal e8, e10 and e12 are very handy. A set of fuel filter clamp pliers like these http://www.samstagsales.com/esgen.htm#pliers

Don't waste your money on just the strait pair though. I don't recall the brand but I purchased off my Mac dealer a set that has three different positions. They are more useful in reaching those tight places. Also the two different size oil filter cap tools for gas and diesel are a must. I suggest taking a look at assenmacher tools for those.

Go to the Hazet website they list kits for all the major German manufacturers, you could probably just pick out the specialist stuff and add it to your own.

Leave the SAE tools at home, you wont be needing it anymore

if your a credentialed tech ,ASE, factory training, aftermarket training you can join IATN.net lots of good mercedes techs there.

They just started letting students and new techs also join with limited access. Worth a look.

I'm not a tech but I do work on Mostly pre '00 Mercedes stuff (diesels mainly). I will say everything after the W124 chassis ***** to work on in my opinion. It's nothing but replacing parts and a lot of specialized tools. I have a spring compressor, diesel valve adjust wrenches, a W124 ball joint press, and some other special tools I've had to make or buy.

I enjoy working on the pre '95 stuff. I usually sit in the engine compartment when I adjust the valves on the older stuff.

I have a ton of experiance on benz..Buy the E-Torx, entire set. A good set of nut drivers and torx screw drivers.. If you don't have allen sockets I'd get those as well. Optional are Etorx wrenches.

Get ready to change a ton of modules!

I'm sure it's a hell of a lot better than working on Chrysler products, because these are the worst and warranty times ****, and there is no money to be made with that garbage, although the product is SLOWLY getting better, the way things done, times, and pay won't get better.
