I am thinking of up dating my bottom tool box which is a Snap on 50" wide and 22" deep (drawers 20") I had about $2000 I wanted to put into a double bay 56" wide, so that limits me to a used Snap on, Matco or Mac. After checking around I seen the 56" Harbor Freight for $700 would be hard to beat. But after thinking it over, I think I should go with a 72" wide. I have found a couple Matco for around $2500. I see that most of the Match, S.On and Mac in this size are only 24" deep. I was looking at a Extreme and it is 72 and 30 deep. Would drawers this deep cause any problems? I've got no experience with Mac boxes, but all of my tool storage is 30" deep. It's the common size in industrial cabinets (Lista, Vidmar, Equipto etc), and makes a lot of sense since it's about the same depth as most work surfaces.
I think the argument for shallower tool storage comes back to portability. If your workplace is likely to change, then full-depth storage is going to be more work to move.
But so long as the Mac boxes are strong enough (think: standing in the srawer when it's pulled out all the way), and you're not rolling the thing around every day, then I'd say the deeper box will be better.
I'm not very organized, but this will give you an idea of what the interiors of the drawers are like.

My KR1000 is 30" deep, and I freaking love it. If you have the space, go for it!

I will never give up my KRL 1023 (unless I get a larger, 29" deep box that is...). You have a lot more options storing your tools with a deeper configuration as long as you have the room for the box and be able to open the drawer fully.
I'm not very organized, but this will give you an idea of what the interiors of the drawers are like.
It's a shame that you aren't more organized.

These look like really nice boxes. I would say better than Snap on and less expensive. But that price range is out of my budget. Big differance in $4500 and $2700. I know you get what you pay for. The last box I bought lasted me 35 years before I out grew it, and at 72 years I'll have the sod over me before I need another one.

It is not a top of the line Snap-on but is a very nice toolbox. All the drawers that are deeper/taller then about 2.5" are double slides on each side of the drawer.

Just noticed that the box you linked is the 18 drawer. Mine is the 17 drawer and is slightly more heavy duty. Strictlytooboxes has better specs on their site.

Also notice that the 17 drawer has thicker gauge steel used through out. This and the heavier rated drawers made me decide on the 17.
