Any opinons on Venstar WiFi stats??

Looking to possibly install a few Venstar T8750 wi-fi thermostats. Any thoughts?

They are 1 of a small group that you can adjust the delay / temp diff of the 2nd stage heat. Most other wi-fi stats try to 'think" when you want it to come on.

Might just be my opinion from an old man but most of these new stats are trying too hard. Motion detection, geofencing, learning patterns, Alexa etc. How lazy are we getting? I'm basically looking for remote control and monitoring of a vacation house with a simple phone app.

thanks

I'm looking for the same for our shop HVAC. Simple tstat with a simple, reliable cloud service.

I haven't looked at Venstar. I have been looking at Emerson Sensi.

Unless I'm mistaken, Venstar is made by the Chinese company who used to make Carriers' circa 2003 Totaline stats. And were dumped.

Rather than discontinue them, the Chicoms re-named them and sold them directly. They weren't worth a hoot when Carrier sold em, and they're not any better now.

For the most part you're right about them 'trying too hard'.......But to justify a $150+ price they've got to do something besides just turn the air on and off.......

I also looked at and liked the Sensi. It does not have adjustable 2nd stage for my application though.

Aren't they all made in China?? I looked the Bosch BCC-100 and surprised me where it was made.

Is 2nd stage features a deal breaker?

In my search, it was reviewing the manufacturers that have the most stable cloud service with the best featured, cleanest app.

CT

Probably may be not a deal breaker, but very important. I have radiant heat as primary and hydro-air as secondary. I really don't need the second stage until temps get into 30's and below. Traditional stats react too quickly when a door opens or when night setback ends. That starts a scenario in which a circulator comes on, boiler heats to a higher temp and then the fan coil gets hot and starts fan. By then sometimes the radiant already caught up and shuts down the 2nd stage just after it started. Was thinking of time delay relays for 2nd stage, but would much rather have just have control in the stat. Always open for suggestions?
