I came looking for a discussion on orthopedic or operating room tools. I am disappointed.

"Go see a doctor"

especially since you did it at work, that can change everything..insurance, paid time off, sick leave vs short term disability, etc, etc

Coming here to ask that kind of advice is like asking a lawn mower mechanic how to fly and air plane.....

Yea....last time I checked, diagnosing medical problems was not a DIY or garage thing.

go see a doctor.

If it feels like some sort of muscle pull but more painful, you'll probably need some sort of compression sleeve. In the past I found the single piece, tube type, elastic sleeve to work better than the wrap around Ace type bandage, especially if I had to leave it on for a number of hours. You might need to purchase more than one size to find the one that will fit properly. You'll want enough pressure that you feel less pain, but not enough so it feels like the circulation is being cut off, or your foot is getting numb.

Also use a heating pad on your calf for maybe an hour or hour and a half, and switch this off with ice bags or some other method of chilling the muscle. If Indianapolis is as cold as Philly is at the moment, put on a pair of lose pants, hike up the pants leg on the leg that's injured, and stand outside till it feels like the muscle is chilled deep down and the pain is somewhat numbed. Alternately a five gallon bucket filled with ice chilled water would work also.

Consuming one or two shots of alcohol per day for the next few days would likely also help with the muscle, as would the stinky rubs weight lifters and dancers use.

I wouldn't be surprised if you still have pain for a week or two or longer. The main thing is you want to avoid causing any more sharp type pain until the muscle is healed. So major or quick movement of the leg may be restricted for a while. I'm not sure how long but a month wouldn't surprise me.

If you hurt your leg at work, this is a work related injury, you need to informed your employer and be sent to a company Doctor. This is pretty standard in most workers comp laws in most states. There should be no out of pocket cost to you the injuried worker

Don't be so hard on him. He could have the Bronze Plan under Obama-care and cannot afford to pay the five-thousand dollar deductible. I can help, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express..........

Well I've already seen a doctor under workers comp, but the medical company inside Allison Trans is famous for for telling people to take Ibuprofen & go back to work when they've had broken arms & ankle's etc.

I was pushing out a chip tub & I thought someone hit me, I turned around to look but nobody was there, & I heard a pop like a fire cracker going off & it was painful to walk but I limped to get a pass to medical.

The fact is they don't want to do much of anything for you at all since it cuts into managements bonuses.

Anyway I felt the initial pain on the inward side of my calf, I think it was disquising the other pain that i'm feeling now that is a little lower, it's also bruised !

I know there shouldn't be any cost to me but the employer thinks they shouldn't have to take care of you either. The union doesn't do much for you either, since they're in bed with the company.

If it's some sort of pulled muscle, the doctor might just give you some Ibuprofen and an ace bandage and tell you not to stress the muscle or ligament. From the advise above I'd recommend starting with cold treatment.

Fill out the appropriate forms that need to be filled out and go see the work comp doctor and tell them what happened. The union really has nothing to do with this procedure, granted they should represent you if the company fails to provide the needed medical care and that's what injury lawyers are for. Sure you will have to jump through the work comp hoops and everything but you cant afford to not do this the right way. Chances are this may just end up being a simple pulled muscle and the proper meds and some rest may be all that's needed. However, if its not just a simple muscle strain and instead is a ruptured tendon or something that will require surgery, then you'll be darned glad that you filled out the proper paper work and followed all the proper procedures. Don't take a work injury for granted, it could cost you dearly in the long run.

Classic description of a torn calf muscle. Only severe ones need treatment, but you'll hobble for a while.

I don't think you're allowed to give medical advice on the internet unless you're a doctor. I'm not a doctor.

Best advice besides that is to: don't put any weight on it for a while (use crutches if you have them) and get to a doctor as soon as you can.

That's a classic description of a torn Achilles' tendon. I work with injured athletes and they say it felt like someone kicked me in the back of the leg. Is there a divot along the Achilles' tendon? If so you've torn it and depending on how bad/big the divot is you would need surgery to reattach it.

First tell your job you got hurt. Second have your job send you to a doctor.

What state are you in? Every job should have workers comp. Make sure you file a claim. If no one on your job is interested in helping you you should hurry and get a Worker Comp lawyer. The Union should have told you to file a rerport of your injuries. Go to your shop Steward or Union Rep.

If your uncomfortable with the work Doc, go see your own too. I think I would rather do that than find out down the road it was something else and now its too late for treatment or legal action.
