I can't take a picture worth a ****, it's better now with digital, but when I had a 35mm the pics usually came out blurry, I did get some really, really good pictures of alligators. Eventually I got a fully automatic camera and the pics got better but I don't have an eye for like some.

I have lots of Pentax 35mm cameras.... Love the LX and MX the best, I think the K1000 wasn't one of the great ones though.... I do think the super program and ME super were nice as well. Not sure if that was what you were looking for...

I own 20 or so pentax 35mm bodies, and newer Canon A2e (also bought new) and an older 20D I bought new when it first came out and I can't afford any L series lens... But then I do have some nice plomb tools, hahaha If if I spend the same amount of money on camera's as I did tools, I would have some really nice stuff

Yeah I have to choose what my monthly budget will be for....motorcycle stuff, camera gear or tools. I can usually only pick one per month. As far as DSLRs I have a 10D, 20D, 5D....and my baby 1dsmkIII. For some reason I never sell my old DSLR bodies.

I have a ton of 35mm SLR bodies and a few P&S. Its an addiction like any other I guess. The L glass is definitely an large investment. I'm into L gear for around $30k or so.

I have a soft spot for my old Canon FTB 35mm body. Its built like a tank. Its about 35 years old and still taking pictures like the day it was new. I had a CL&A done about three years ago. Should be good for awhile now.

I just ordered a 70-200 f/4, and will have close to 3 months to get used to it before NYC Fleet Week.

Next lens purchase will either be a replacement for the 18-55 kit lens, or perhaps a 60mm macro for better tool review pics.

I have the 2.8ISL version of the 70-200. You will love it! I keep mine on my 5D 95% of the time. As far as macros...I have the 100mmL & 180mmL macro lenses. Freaking amazing bokeh. The DOF on the 180 can be tricky but very useful.

Sorry I don't have too much experience with the 60mm so I'm not much help with that one.

You have a light box or are you going to make one for your review pictures?

an ISL 500? Holy big lens batman, I'd love to use one much less own one. I have a friend who has some big L glass, shoots a lot of birds.

The only L glass I have is a 70-200L, more will follow but handguns have gotten in the way lately...

You keep the 2.8 IS on your camera most of the time? Your biceps must be huge! I was afriad that if I waited too long, the spring rebates would come along and the lens would go out of stock.

From what I read, the 60mm macro image quality is comparable to that of the 100mm. The 100 is a bit out of my price range, and probably will be for a while. That, and I think I would benefit from the reach of the 60 more often.

I do have a DIY lightbox and ordered a few parts to improve upon it. I don't use it too much for tools yet, but it will be useful for some of the smaller ones. For lighting, I'm using cheap spring clamps from the hardware store. Eventually (maybe 2 years down the road) I hope to pick up a stand and umbrella for my flash, which are cheap enough, but I'm hesitating b/c it'll be downhill from there with softboxes, lights, etc.

I had an old Pentax K1000 for years. Now just 2 cheapie point and shoot digital cameras for family/kid photos. Recently I dusted off my old Leica M3 and started using 35mm again. I also get to use my vintage hand held light meter, just like when I started using Dad's camera as a kid. Atavistic, and very satisfying getting back to pure control, but I must say I get spoiled by the ease of digital.

I'm very tempted to have a look at the Lecia X1 when it comes out. Nooooo, don't do it!!!!

I had a Canon Digital Rebel and sold it a while ago. I've been fed up with the lack of control with my point and shoot so I just bought a refurbished Nikon D40.

I LOVE IT! Lately, I've been spending my tool money on camera accessories.


I'm looking for a "do it all" type lens in the 18-200 range. Any of the Nikon guys here have any recommendations?

Anyways it's not that bad keeping on camera... I have mine on my 1d mark IIN.. and can shoot all day with it...

I was referring to the 70-200 f/4 non-IS. That was all I could afford right now, and barely at that.

I keep hearing that the 2.8 is very tiring to hand-hold after a while. I cannot even imagine wielding a 400 or 500m lens. Then again, if I could afford such a lens, I wouldn't mind its heft.

And yes, the 2.8IS MII is either out already or slated for release quite soon.

I've been in the market for a 70-200 2.8 is for a long time, but now my wife and I want a new house, so those plans are on hold. I will have one though.

I currently shoot with the basic, Canon XTi with the kit lense.

Hey finally a tool thread I can contribute to! Already seeing some pretty bad-*** pictures on here

I've been shooting for $$$ since 1999, and finally went all digital in 2002. My bread and butter is motorcycle roadracing/events here in Minnesota and the surrounding area.



I've shot with pretty much every Canon lens they've made since 2002, but my "daily" pelican case has a pair of 1D's, a 70-200/2.8, a 300/2.8, and a 16-35. When I go to the bigger tracks I'll rent a 400 or 500 from either West Photo here in town, or Calumet in Chicago. There is no substitute for big glass

I've also been doing more Airshows as of late, working with the National Guard-sponsored pilot John Klatt and his buddies. Shot my first air-to-air last summer and I still smile huge when I think about it. Highly recommended:



Oh, and the reason I'm on this forum is because I love wrenching on bikes so I can score some free track time given the opportunity

My favorite camera is an old Agfa bellows camera, which uses 620 film (2-1/4" square, I think). Sadly, there are cracks in the corners, with light leaks.

Do any of you photo people know of a source for bellows tape, or another thin black tape? Gaffers tape would be perfect if it were about one-quarter the thickness, I think. Any leads?
