Probably a long shot, but you never know.

I have the head for a ball pein hammer. It is marked on one side with the name of the H. Cheney company, which seems to have made some desirable hammers, if eBay is a reliable indicator.

On the other side is the word "Pierce" with an arrow running through it. It basically looks like this logo here:

Just the arrow/name part, not the part with Mr. No Shirt.

I am wondering if this is gold to some Pierce-Arrow collector, or just a regular hammer. I have been on here long enough to know that some of these tools for specific vehicle kits are highly sought after.

I can try to take pics, but the hammer head is pitted, so the lettering is not as crisp as it was when new. My photography skills might not be up to the challenge.

Bull if you have a camera with a Macro setting (usually indicated by a flower symbol) give that a shot and try different lighting angles on the hammer to try to bring out the lettering.

Cheney was around at the right time to make a hammer on contract for Pierce...

How heavy is the head? I'd expect it to be semi heavy...

It's not a big head...I **** at guesstimating, but maybe 1 lb max? :dunno:

I found links to two or three old eBay auctions for a Pierce Arrow ball pein through Google, but the results lead me to the WorthPoint site, where I need to pay to see what the item sold for. Not happening.

I'll see what I can do with the macro.

Do you still have the hammer head? Pierce had their logo put on tools made by Billings & Spencer, Williams, Fairmount, Cheney and probably others. I just joined this site while looking for Pierce Arrow tools. I'd be interested in any Pierce logo tools.

As I read this I turn my head to the right and see a Fairmount Pierce-Arrow adjustable wrench sitting on the TV stand. Some of the tools go for decent money but you won't be retiring on the proceeds from the sale of one. Best way to find out what it's worth is to put it on ebay, there's one on there now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131549432910

That hammer on ebay is expensive. The seller has quite a few PA tools at large prices. If I had the bank account of someone with expensive classic cars, then those prices might not bother me. I'm trying to put together enough of the tools for a tool kit for a Pierce Arrow and having some of them with the logo is my objective. The most I've paid so far is a little over twenty bucks shipping included. By the time I collect all the tools for the kit, make the tool roll, and put it up for sale, if I had to pay the high dollar prices I would have a hard time just getting my money back. I've got a Fairmount 11" monkey wrench without the pierce logo. Mickey, what size is your wrench and do you want to sell it?

That will teach me not to post in the wee hours of the morning. I had thought that I had checked the posting date, but my eyes must have been crossed. :lol_hitti
