Any pliers set recommendations?

Well, my HF pliers are finally crapping out, so I am looking for a new set. I really have my eye on the Channellock set below - only 5 pieces, but really its all that I need (at least for now).

Seeing if you guys have any recommendations. This set is $89 and I want to keep it around or less than $100. My life/job doesnt depend on these, but I also like the quality and made in USA! I was looking at Irwin - they have some nice sets, but really wish they were made in USA.

Any other recommendations? Sometimes I see tool recommendations here for brands I have never even heard of!

I think you can do channellock for much less out of the set. My opinion but haven't looked at what's included.

I'm not sure how you break pliers unless they're really crappy and/or they're the micro ones but okay. If you're breaking needle nose you're doing it wrong.

I just got the Tekton combination wrench set and the wrenches are made in Taiwan, the rack in the US. Really impressed by them so far. I like them better than what's currently available in Lowes/Home Depot at this point. Their slip joint pliers and groove joint pliers are USA made by Wilde. They have some China pliers too, so just check what you're buying. I like the Tekton/Wilde better than their Channellock twins and I have both.

Service from Tekton is over the top good, almost everybody here will agree about that.

Channel lock best bang for your buck. Sometimes you can get an entire set of Mac tools pliers set for 100$ cheaper than channellock

I own craftsman pro, knipex, and have had various other makes such as Klein and channel lock. Snap On pliers are far and away superior. They aren't fancy looking, but they are comfortable to hold, strong to use, and well made and finished. If you are spending $100 on pliers, I would get the snap on set. They go on special frequently.

That said, I was pretty happy with my craftsman pros. I just didn't like the color. They wore out after 20 years hard use. I'm not a huge fan of using pliers to turn fasteners. They are almost always the wrong tool for that. If a bolt is so rusted it can't be removed with a wrench or socket, my experience (exhaust) is that I'm better off cutting it out.

While all the snap on pkiers are nice, my favorites are the duck bills and talon grip needle nose. I also use and like Knipex Cobras for house hold stuff. Knipex plier wrench is also very helpful.

So I guess my point is, I wouldn't buy a set. I'd buy a couple really good pliers. I'd choose snap on over any other comparable tool. I strongly recommend Cobras and the knipex plier wrench. I'd choose duck bills over needle nose, but both are nice to have.
