I’m getting into power lifting and ordered a 3”x3” heavy duty squat rack a few weeks ago and it should be arriving next week.

Since I have a small home, I’m wondering if there’s any interesting hybrid workshop/home gym setups that rely on attaching something to a squat rack due to efficiency of space.

Offhand, maybe a voice attached to a 3 foot steel bar that fits around the vertical upright of the squat rack. Or maybe a foredom rotary tool hung from a carabiner On the rack.

Probably all terrible ideas and I’m thinking of moving out of state where homes are bigger. I’m guessing metal shavings and oils and **** from workshop mixing with expensive weight training stuff is a bad idea. But maybe there’s something clever people have done.

rogue has a rack that bolts the wall and folds out, that's a big space saver.

as long as you don't get it soaked, decent lifting stuff should be fine in a garage. id be concerned about temperature, but it looks like you are in the bay area where weather is always pretty close to perfect, so maybe not an issue.

coated plates (cheap rubber stuff is fine, you don't have to all the way up to actual weightlifting spec bumpers) might help w keeping rust away too.

We have a Rogue rack in our home gym (have you seen the Rogue Industrial stuff?), and I had considered buying more parts and components to make a sort-of lumber rack for the shop. The Westside Hole Spacing makes those things highly re-configurable, but I couldn't justify the price. Maybe if they had factory seconds, or I found one dirt cheap locally......

Then again the wife may just steal them for the home gym......

I have seen people use the 'spotter arms' as a jump table, with some reinforced plywood in between the arms, that would be easily turned into a quick workbench.

Or you could use a single post as a reconfigurable column for vises or grinders.

This is my garage setup. Hardest part is preventing the dirty shop stuff from dirtying up the equipment. I have to vacuum pretty much before every workout, and spend time wiping/oiling equipment since its not a conditioned space.
