Any Ratchet Torque Comparisons Out There?

I was wondering if there were ever any tests done on an independent level of any ratchets to determine torque capacity under normal loading, as well as shock loads.

What does Snap-on claim is the max. torque load ?

edit:

just found this: click 700 ft-lbs for the 1/2"

click 250ft.lbs for the 3/8"

I don't have that info, never seen it. But I have the March, 09 "Hot Tools" flier in front of me. So claims the 3/8 80 series ratchet will support 632lbs. They show a KRL1022 cab suspended by a chain hooked to 3/8 ratchet in a fixture so it (presumably) ratchets clockwise/counterclockewise. They don't identify the model # but it looks to be an F80. The load is hooked about midway on the handle. They feature an FLF80 by model number on that page.

I'll post photos of this page later if anyone wants to see.

Disclaimer: I have an FLF80 and like it quite a bit.

I want to know what a proto 5449. would take, I have seen people do things with them and they have never broke. Just curious how 1930's technology can compare to new snap on technology? Might lose today, but I would be money that the 5449 would be stronger than the 36 and 20 tooth.

Move that chain to the end of the ratchet handle and lets see what happens.

I remember an old Hot Rod , around the late 90's, where they did a comparison of ratchets. It involved them measuring smoothness of clicks, degrees of swing, the "cheater pipe" test, and functionality test. I've looked for it online for years, and haven't found it.

I bet all of the major manufactures run these kind of experiments in their labs. We just need someone to leak the results.

Post a copy of this if someone has it... Hot Rod march 2002. Article, we trash the best ratchet handles.

That's plenty strong, but most anything can be easily made to artificially exhibit those numbers, such as slow, gentle increase of torque on the tool. That's why I asked for shock loads because even in a best case, since we're ratcheting, we're nearly always shock loading the tool to some percentage of its ultimate strength under sudden strain or torque.
