Any recommended workshop 10" tablet

I'm looking for a lower end 10" tablet to use in the shop for reading manuals, watching youtube instructional stuff (doesn't have to be movie quality), etc. Cheap enough that I'll use it without worrying about it to much. Nice enough so it will last awhile. Do primarily woodworking and learning a little metal working (small chinese mill and lathe).

I've got an old laptop but that has to many places for **** to get in. Seems easier to seal a tablet, plan to tape over any ports. 10" is minimum as I've got old geezer eyesight.

Curious if anyone has something there using successfully. Or own something they think would work.

You can get a 10" RCA at Walmart for $90. It will be fine for web browsing, viewing manuals and watching youtube.

Its smaller than you want at 7" but I paid $35 for my Amazon fire tablet on black Friday.I'm using it for exactly what you describe. Amazon has bigger tablets but they're more expensive. I'd take a look if I were in your shoes.

interested in other recommendations as well. I'm looking for a tablet as well. I'm tired of sitting around with my 15" widescreen laptop in my lap just to surf the web and check my mail and garage journal. I have my laptop and my wifes if we need to do some actual computing or using office etc.
Having something in the garage is great too, for the same reasons as the op. Sometimes I need to look up a manual or how to while working on my car or something. and again I don't really want to lug the laptop out to the garage

Just me but I like the Samsung Note tablets, just on the part of them having a stylus to jot down notes and make you a list to carry with you. You can pick up a good used one on eBay,

The Samsung galaxy tab A is on sale at Costco for $279 ($70 off now) and comes with a free case/folder.. It has a quad core processor and it's really nice for the money.. One feature that the samsung's do that real nice, is you can split the screen in half and run two different apps at the same time.. Like YouTube, and Amazon at once.. Or maybe Torque and YouTube if you need to help narrow Down a problem. It's a lot of tablet for the money.

I was just comparing the Samsung Galaxy Tab A and the Galaxy S2 tablet from Costco two weeks ago.. I bought the S2 as a gift for my mother and stepfather. It has an 8 core processor, better display, gps, IR blaster - thinner, lighter (it's ****** amazing how thin this thing is) and is also on sale now ($100 off) for $389, and also comes with a free folder. It does more than the newest iPad.

Have you considered a laptop instead? You can get a chromebook for less than $200 and a real (windows) laptop for less than $250.

I prefer a real keyboard since I wear gloves in the garage and some pages just work better on a laptop (especially compared to discount tablets).

Kindle Fire doesn't have a youtube app stock. So there's a bit of work involved in making that accomplish the intended goals.

I would just use your old smartphone next time you get an upgrade. It's not as big as you want but it's familiar and whatever damage you were going to do to it has probably already been done. Worst case, you spend some extra on a new battery for it but otherwise it costs you nothing.

Lots of good suggestions here. Nice thing about android tablets you can find pretty much any size/quality/price point to fit whatever your needs are.

It IS possible to get these apps onto the tablet, but not directly. You would need to download them onto your phone, then transfer them onto a laptop, and then transfer them onto the fire tablet.

The iPad is a great tablet, they make COUNTLESS accessories for them. (I'm on one now) I have a Bluetooth keyboard/ case that basically turns the tablet into a touchscreen laptop. The folder holds the screen in place, so you don't need to have it on a table, I can just lay the whole thing in my lap and the keyboard part holds up the tablet without it needing support.. The iPad's issue is storage. You pay a TON for extra storage cause there is no external storage, and no real accessibility like other tablet.. IMO the Samsung is a good compromise.. You can even cut cost and get the 8" model Samsung Galaxy Tab A - same as the 10" model in every way - just smaller and cheaper. On sale for $169 at Costco I think with a folder.

Walmart also has a 2-in-1 tablet for sale for 170 after tax. its a Windows flexx10. I just bought one myself, comes with a keyboard.

My setup is a refurbished 10in tablet from newegg. Refurbished because this gets abused in the garage. Cost 100. Perfect for what I need. Second suggestion would be to pickup a $15 waterproof roll up keyboard. There are times that you may want one. These can be either wired or Bluetooth. The way they are made they are a little garage friendly.

I have a 12" Panasonic Toughbook that I bought used. It runs Win7 and I have all of my manuals and diagnostic programs loaded on it.

Those RCA tablets are getting excellent reviews. I'm picking one up as soon as Walmart in Canada gets some more in. Keyboard is nice, and with HDMI out, hooking them up to a cheap flatscreen TV is a cinch. Lots of ports on them too.
