Any resource for workbench plans? Any construction/framing tips?

I've outgrown my craftsman 4.5' bench and pegboard... I'd like to build something much larger.. most likely 10' or so. I'd like to keep it open underneath so I can store my fridge and shop vac etc.

Any good place I can download or snag blueprints to get ideas? I figured I'd use posts for the legs and frame in the upper piece w/ 2x4s. I've built some walls before and helped a buddy completely finish his basement so I have a little experience w/ framing walls etc.

There are some workbench plans on there and other shop accessories. I havent found any benchs that sounds like what you are looking for, but you might get some ideas. At the bottom of the page there are plans you can purchase, but just by looking at some of the pictures you can figure out how they are built.

I just built one 6' long using the plans, although I modified them a bit. Instead of the front lower stringer as shown, I moved it back 6". I hate hitting my shins on lower stringers/shelves. I also added two "studs" between the upper and lower stringers for a bit more rigidity for the bench top, and one stud between the front and rear lower stringers for more strength for the lower shelf. I also used 3/4 plywood rather than OSB for the bench top and shelf.

The bench is very strong (easily held my 200 lbs when I stood on it), easy to build and inexpensive -- I have less than $40 in mine with all new lumber. You could extend it to make a longer bench, although I'd add a middle leg front and rear if you go longer than 8 ft. You can leave the lower shelf out if you want to store your vac and fridge underneath, but you will definitely lose strength if you don't have a stringer near at or near the front tying the two sides together.
