So not really garage related but I know there are some pretty crafty people on here. So I had cheap free floating skirting on my manufactured house that was falling apart so I ripped it off. What I did was build a 2x4 wall down to ground then put osb on then house wrap. I removed bottom first layer of vinyl siding in order to get osb tight to house osb. I put on a new starter strip all the way around house since I destroyed the original getting bottom layer off.

Now here is my question I want to put vertical vinyl board and batten under horizontal siding. My original thought was just use J-Chanel for top Chanel but what's going to keep water from going in-between the bottom of siding and top of J-Chanel.

Next thought was use H-Chanel, well then when it rains wouldn't the top side of the H that the siding is in fill with water?

Also thought about a drip cap Chanel on top of my J and under starter strip but the shortest drip I can find is 1 ¹/⁴ that would stick out way past the J Chanel?

Our should I just caulk that seem between siding a J and call it a day?

I wouldn't use vinyl "coil".
Aluminum will be fine up at 30"+/-, out of harms way. Use 1/2" J* for the top of the vertical and keep the new flashing close to it.

* many vertical panels have a 1/2" profile and generally 3/4" J is a "sloppy" fit. An actual siding supply house will have access to multiple depths of channels for a trim fit.

"Hem"? Where you fold the edge back over 3/4" on itself?
I should have specifically mentioned that 👍.
It's standard for anything down low in my experience. Never heard it called a safety edge but that's a very fitting term.
