Any Snap-On Sun 450 Engine analyzer users out there?

Hi,

I just picked up a Snap-On Sun 450 EEOS108 from a local auction and will be looking to pick it up soon. I was looking to see if anyone on this forum has had any success in keeping their unit operational and pointers anyone can share to get documentation and software and drivers for the embedded computer.

Any help with this unit would be greatly appreciated.

I too just picked up a Sun 450 EL machine. Had to replace both the hard drive and the the 1.44 floppy. Reloaded windows 98 which was a vintage experience in its self. It came with 3 floppies and one CD. Floppies are; 450/500E Software Update, Sun Machine Pre 1981 Limits, Sun Machine 2002 Vehicle Data Update. The CD is Sun Machine 5.0 (Pt #3-09826).

I have not been able to load the machine software. I think I may be missing a Floppy called Sun Machine Initial Installation Disk. I was able to start the Sun Machine 5.0 software CD but stopped at a User Verification screen. It will give you a Personal ID Number and instruct you to call Snap-On/SUN tech support at 1-800-225-5786. I jotted down the ID and called Sun later from home. Turns out that the Personal ID Number is generated from the BIOS clock and you have to be at the machine when you call. The tech gave me a number based on the ID that I gave him but he said it was time sensitive and probably wouldn't work...and it didn't. Going back to the verification screen I see that it gives you a new PIN every time it you toggle back and forth.

The tech told me that they stopped supporting this machine in 2009 with product such as leads and adapters etc. but there are a lot of these units out there and they do continue to service them with local on-site techs. I still need to get back to my machine during business hours and see if I can get the software loaded.

In addition to the software I got a full User Manual and other setup instructions are available online.

Hello! I also have a Sun Machine 450 and am in need of the Software, since I had to replace the hard drive of the computer. Has anyone gotten anywhere with this so far?

Hello! I just got the Sun Machine 450 as well.. I know that this thread is pretty old, but I am hoping you guys have found a way to get the software loaded to your hard drives. I have the Quantum ST 2.1GB in mine.. It actually attempted to load once, but failed.. I have the floppy to load the software, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's the floppy drive itself.. My Sun Machine didn't come with the 5.0 CD ROM. Is there a way you can make a copy or make the image available somewhere? Any other advice or help is greatly appreciated.

I am pretty sure I have the CD at work. I am not sure about the install diskette.

I would say my machine still works but I do get an error that the gas bench is down. This prevents most of the functions from working. I still working dyno controls and the scope pattern viewer works.

Thank you for the quick response. I have the floppy. It doesn't boot from it.
I just tried swapping the floppy drive.. It still does nothing.. I don't think it's bootable at all.
I am trying to install just any OS on the PC now.. Just to let it run for a few hours a get any other issues identified..

My Sun Machine runs a minimal Win95 as an operating system. The Sun Disc is 478MB.

I verified that my SUN floppy is readable. I bought a couple of IDE drives and I am still struggling to install Windows 98 on it.. The Sun Machine isn't capable of booting from CDRom. At least mine. I can boot it with a floppy, but there are no drivers for my new hard drive or CDRom drive. I've been struggling to put just any OS on it at this point.. I bought another Quantum Fireball ST from ebay and hopefully it will be recognized by the loader floppy.. It is coming later in the week.. I forgot how big of a mess it was to reinstall an OS in the 90-s..

What are the hoses made of? The original hoses are quite crumbly and I had to replace them with regular vacuum line. I understand that this could skew the results in some way but that's something I'm willing to live with. In the pinched hose between the two flow sensors, I put a threaded insert into a vacuum tube to restrict flow like the original tube. I get all green except for the o2 since i haven't replaced the sensor yet. It passes the leak test too. I believe both flow sensors need restriction.

Running sun system 3.3 - is there really any reason to upgrade? Is there COP support on 5.0?

I am looking to pick up a Sun 450 this week. Would be interested in a copy of the install software, just in case. Once I get the unit, I'll check the version.

My current goal is to just clone the disk and keep that as a backup.

I found a used Sun 450 from a discontinued high school auto-shop program. Heartbreaking, I know. Anyways the guy has all the install diskettes (3.5" floppies).

I can grab them and make copies to share if someone here can post a photo or diagram of all the exhaust gas tubing within the unit. All the rubber tubing between all the sensors in this unit need replacing, as it's all decrepit and in pieces and I can't determine what goes where in order to replace it all. I'm hoping once I get everything snug and plumbed properly the exhaust bench will read accurately and I'll have a new tool!

So is anybody able to take off the back panel and take clear photos of what I need to repair this unit? The parts manual has a diagram of the section I'm referring to but doesn't show tubing between components (see pic below).

Where did you find this vacuum hose routing diagram? I'm was in the same boat with rotten hoses. This is exactly what I need. Was this part of a larger machine service manual? I have the Operator's Manual, software, and 2002 Update floppy and CD disk.

You have to call Snap-On at the time you load the basic software for a code.

I also have a floppy with the passcode number generating code system. I do not know if you can copy the 5.0 CD or not. I would be willing to purchace one if available. I would also be willing to make copy of passcode floppy for anyone who needs for their reinstallation. SnapOn wanted this floppy to not be public. Could trade copy of 5.0 CD for a copy of passcode floppy.

The O2 sensor on the gas bench is a maintinance item. It will affect the calibration. It is screw out and in unit, easy to replace. Located in upper center of rear panel. I am in need of a 5.0 CD or a copy if it can be copied.

I would be interested in getting copies of floppy disc. I have some but not sure ifa all I will need. My Initall Instalation disc got copyed over with something different and will not work. Not sure of others. I have a floppy with Password/ codes for installation if you would want a copy of it to have.

I would be interested in a passcode floppy disc copy. I’m about to purchase one that sets to have everything but I don’t see a floppy for passcodes.
