Picked up this No. 7 plane at the flea market on Sun. I don't usually pay much attention to planes, not my area of expertise, but this one being so big, in pretty nice shape, called out to me. It came in the ho made wooden case shown, thought it might be special since a PO cared enough for it to build the case. I tried doing a search to find out how old it is, but they started talking type numbers and minute details, without comparison pics, I kind of gave up. Can anyone tell me about what year it is, or what "Type" it is? If you need a different pic, let me know.
TIA, Jim

The brass adj. knob is LH thread. Couple more pics. Any good venues to sell this besides the 'Bay?

the metal bodied planes all have a left handed thread on the adjuster knob, so it works the way you think it should. Some of the transitional planes are right handed, and weird to use because of it.

have you looked at this guide? https://hyperkitten.com/tools/stanley_bench_plane/

Warning, though. Almost all planes that were actually used are hybrids, they broke, and someone repaired them with the parts of another broken plane. It's very common to see the 'wrong' frog, lever cap, knobs and totes on them. So you may not have a proper type plane. That matters only to collectors, you have the features that matter to users (big adjuster knob, kidney slot on the lever cap, adjustable frog, better handle designs).

454,
Just saw this thread. I commented and asked a couple of questions on the GS thread. The link that Rick provided above is excellent resource just not so much for dating the planes. Hyperkitten mentioned above is a good starter to try to date your Stanley plane. If you have any questions let me know. Also, see my questions in the GS thread.

Edit: Didn't read the thread and missed your pics initially. Looking at them I think you've probably got a type 19 (1948-1961). However, like dscheidt says all too often there can be hybridization. In my case, the majority of planes I've bought seem to have period correct parts. I've never seen a type 19 in person but the forked lever for depth adjustment appears to have a nickel plated appearance on yours which would make it a type 19. I think you have rosewood tote & knob which also were reintroduced with the type 19. Cool and interesting! Nice find!

It definitely is a nice "user" plane. If it had a corrugated sole it would have a bit more value. I'd think you could probably get $75 - maybe even $100 for it.

Wow, hyperkitten and supertool are impressive collections of data on planes, a great deal of effort went into them . Thanks for the links guys

X2, Thanks guys, that really helped.
Kind of funny, I was doing a little cleanup on the No. 7 when one of my customers came by, he's kind of a PIA, but nice enough guy. Came by again this AM and gave me this plane, a #26 wood body transitional plane. Did some searching online, found out it is likely from the late 1800's. But despite being that old, it is almost worthless, very common, and the tote appears to have been replaced. Oh well.

Ya, those wood bodied planes are hard to use and tune, not valuable either.
Your #7 is a nice jointer plane (not a jack as suggested). It is definitely a good user plane.
