You mean a leveler? There used to be cheap ones available at all the major retailers. I now that Mac's Tie Downs has a very nice expensive one.

Yes I saw that, just looking for recommendations on which one. Is one any better than the other? And Mac's Tie Downs wont work on a straight 6 Mercedes.

I think most are made in the same factory in China. I have used a few with small block V8s and the trans, but never on a straight 6. Hopefully someone else will be able to give a detailed opinion.

Just pulled a straight 6 out of a trailblazer using a harbor freight leveler. The thing is a giant POS in its own right. Beyond that it did not give me enough movement, the engine needs to be almost vertical to leave the engine bay. I ended up having to re-rig half way through with a chain fall. Ditched the leveler and just did a chain on the front with a fall on the back, it worked very well. A come along would have also worked but I didn't have one handy.

This is definitely not a place for Harbor Freight.
SB ford and FMX was too much for it, I doubt a straight 6 with trans will fare any better.
Catastrophic failure... NOT good.

My Harbor Freight leveler has been used to put a 302/c4 in my Mustang, to pull and reinstall a ka24e/auto in a Nissan hardbody, and to pull a 3.0/auto from a Ranger I parted out. I even loaned it(with my hoist) to a friend so he could pull and reinstall the 4.3 in his s10. No failures yet...but it does ****. If I was using one all the time, I'd get a different one.

Harbor Freight has two models of levelers:
2 Ton Capacity Heavy Duty Load Leveler - Item#60659
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-capacity-heavy-duty-load-leveler-60659.html

3/4 ton Capacity Heavy Duty Load Leveler - Item#67441
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-ton-capacity-heavy-duty-load-leveler-67441.html

I have the 2 ton version. I have used it once to remove a Mitsubishi 6G74 3.5L V6 motor from a Montero Sport and will use it again in the next few weeks to reinstall the rebuilt motor. It worked fine for me and I have no issues with it. The crank adjustment was smooth and very easy to fine tune the tilt of the motor. I used a 20% of coupon to save relative to the $44.99 normal price.
