Any thoughts on New Age "Performance" cabinets please

Hello all.
I am sure this has been brought up before. I know the "Performance" series is New age's cheapest cabinets but I was wondering what everyone thought of them.
I will just be using them for storage of detail stuff, oil, filters, etc. Nothing heavy. Also, I will be the only one in the garage so I am not worried about kids possibly damaging anything.
These three sets look like pretty good deals and I would like to get one of them unless everyone thinks they are not good:

Following along. I am in a very similar boat as you. I've read great things about the pro series, but the budget just doesn't allow for those right now...or probably ever. I'm eyeing the below setup myself.....although those blue ones you posted above are second on my list.

I'm mostly worried about the cabinets bending, twisting over time and possibly the durability of the powder coating??

The Performance line is meant to compete with garage cabinets from the big box hardware stores. These cabinets are great for the casual consumer who doesn't need to store heavy tools and car parts. Notice to get the price point NewAge is aiming for, the cabinets are smaller than the Performance Plus and Pro-Series cabinets that NewAge sells.
Ultimately you're going to purchase what you can afford. If you're not working in your garage that much, you store sports equipment and the bulk purchases from Costco, Performance Series 24 gauge cabinets will work just as well as the 18 gauge Performance Plus cabinets.

So, I am reading the reviews on them. Most of them are good but many times they are over the top. It almost seems like the manufacturer is writing them.
Then I get to this one, it definately scared me:

"Embarrassing quality. We bought a different brand for our last house and while the assembly was difficult, they appeared to be much more sturdy and had a far better look. In person these look like cheap metal...and they are. I would have sent them back, but the difficulty and hassle to return them negates that process. They arrived on a pallet and once you start taking them off, good luck getting them back in order to return. Installation should be simple, but we have let them sit for a month because we don't like them. I may just Donate them to Goodwill. There are certain things you should only buy if you can see, feel and touch them."

I would love to hear from someone that has them.

That's a pretty ******** review. I like the look of them too but I've never seen them in person. 24 gauge is pretty flimsy. Anyone know if Costco has them in the stores?

I just priced out a Performance Plus set and there is a big difference in price just between Performance and Performance Plus. I don't think it would be worth it and I really don't want to go even higher.
I guess they are not big sellers as know one has chimed in here.
I really think they will hold up for what I want from them, I just wish I could see them in person.

After putting my Email in for updates they sent me a coupon for 10% off. At $1116 with free shipping and no tax I don't think I can beat it. My plan is to use everything except one locker on a side wall, then use the locker in another area where the compressor and some other things are.
I will let everyone know my thoughts if this is how I go.

I have the pro series cabinets, in the older diamond pattern, like these. I have been very happy with them and they are nice and sturdy. I am not sure about the 24 gauge products but the NewAge quality should transfer to the thinner gauge cabinets also.

I have them in red in my garage. I started with the 12 piece set and just got my order for 9 more to finish out the space I'm using them in. They aren't the heaviest rated but will hold all I need them to hold. If you're just storing light weight stuff in them, they'll be great! I'm storing heavy **** in mine and they work fine. I'm working on putting up my new order tomorrow in the garage and will take new pics and post. But I'm very happy and the styling is very nice too!

FWIW, I have the Craftsman Red/Black wall cabinets, which I believe are 22ga. For storing light weight things, the thickness is fine. I considered the New Age cabinets, but went with the Craftsman because of price and ease of purchase. I'll be purchasing a few locker cabients from Craftsman too in the next few weeks.

I really don't think you can go wrong with NewAge products. Here is a shot of the woodworking side of my garage with my Pro cabinets. I have another set just like this on the other side fo the garage, where I park my Mustang and do my auto stuff. Like I said, I have been very happy with them.

Before you spend that much money I would at least go check out some cabinets with the same gauge steel to see how you like them. I realize different manufacturers make their products a little different so the comparison won't be exact, but at least you would have some idea as to how the cabinets will look and feel when you get them.

Personally, if it were me, I would bite the bullet and go with the heavier steel cabinets. I understand that at the present time you have no intention of putting heavy objects in the cabinets. But the thing is, who knows for sure what you might want to do in the future? Situations change and having a heavy gauge steel cabinet won't affect putting lightweight objects in them. On the other hand, a lightweight steel cabinet won't work very well if you should decide later on that you want to put a few heavy objects in them.

When comparing Performance Plus (18 gauge) and Performance Series (24 gauge) prices, be aware the Performance Plus cabinets are larger.

Performance Plus Base cabinets are 22" deep, 28" wide and 32-1/4" high. The counter tops are 24" deep. The tall locker cabinets are 24" deep by 36" wide and 80" tall.

Performance Series (24 gauge) base cabinets are 16" deep by 24" wide and 30" tall. The tool cabinet has three drawers instead of 5. Counter tops are 18" deep and tall locker cabinets are 18" deep by 30" wide and 72" tall.

The Performance Series set that Overstock.com is offering has two tall lockers, two 3 drawer tool cabinets, one base and 3 wall cabinets.

The same set in the Performance Plus line would set you back 2512.54.

So I received the cabinets yesterday.
I unpacked and put everything together and will install them later in the week. Here are my thoughts for those who where also interested.
My biggest concern was the gauge of the metal. That turns out not to be a problem considering how they will be used. Once they are fastened to the wall they will be fine.
I know the product is on the lower end of what is made but when I buy something new I expect it to be in new condition. I cannot believe the amount of scratches and dents, even if the are not that "significant", except for one base cabinet that had obviously been previously returned because it did have large dents. It was not even packed in its original box.
It is interesting that after you purchase the cabinets and read the instructions it says they are not responsible for scratches and dents that do not effect the performance of the product. Really! Not responsible for scratches and dents on a new item?
One of the storage lockers did not come with the keys. I don't need to lock it, and the lock on the other locker does not work anyway, but again, I do expect it to be complete and in working order.
Putting it together is straight forward. Some of the cabinets where a little different in design and quality. It was difficult to install the legs on some of them as the "nut" on the bottom that receives the bolt for the legs was cheap garbage. I had to force the bolts and thread them in, remove them, then install again with the legs. Annoying and more time consuming then it should have been.
I have the cabinets placed where they will be and over all they look good and will do the job.
I got a great deal on these and still feel they are over priced. I would be unhappy if I paid any more.
One more thing. It looks a little odd that the sides are not the same color as the front and the sides do not look "finished" with all the slots in it.
I will post photos when the job is done.

Thanks for the review Rich. I found some NewAge pro cabinets on craigslist I'm going to pull the trigger on. Cheaper than the 24 gauge but they are used. Going to look at them later.

That's why I will never order anything from Overstock again. I once ordered something from them and got the same ****. It was an already returned item that was repackaged and in poor condition. It sounds like you got some rejects from quality control. I hope they work out for you and sorry you got bad products. My cabinets from NewAge arrived in perfect condition and I am still very happy with them.

Overstock.com sells overstock. These are the cabinets that NewAge chose not to keep in stock. They wouldn't sell them, they are returned cabinets or have been damaged in the warehouse.
I know everyone wants the cheapest price, you tend to get what you pay for.
Almost forgot; one key fits all cabinets.

Are the pro series cabinets the same as ProSlat brand? I have a couple Proslat overhead cabinets and they seem like twins. Even the interior mounting holes look identical.

ProSlat cabinets are made of 22 gauge metal. NewAge Pro Series are made of 18 gauge.
They do look the same. I get inquiries about buying cabinets by the container from China. Looks like these were made in the same factory as NewAge.

So I know this is an older thread but I wanted to let people know about my positive experience with NewAge Product's customer service recently as I couldn't find anything on this topic.

Back in the spring I ordered this 12pc set from these guys and was extremely pleased with the product, they've been nothing shy of great since I bought them.

Recently I decided to purchase one of the new work benches that they are offering, I ordered the 6' version for the opposite wall of my shop where my large power tools are for a price tag of $327.68 taxes in.. this will house my 6" vise permanently, and once on casters be mobile both in my shop and outside along with adding some spare room for larger projects. Ordered the bench from Costco.ca and recieved it within a timely manner of 7 business days delivered by UPS.

Upon removing the packaging I was extremely disappointed to find that a forklift had damaged ( dented and scratched) 2 of the main rails which support the work top. The next morning I called NewAge Product's head office to inform them of my situation. I had taken pictures etc so that I could prove the damage etc, but instead I was simply asked for my order number and a confirmation of who I was.

Customer service was very polite and quick, they immediately sent another replacement order out through UPS, notified Costco.ca of the problem and sent me a confirmation email complete with details of the transaction instantly!.

The best part was that instead of being required to return the damaged bench when UPS came back to bring me the new one,( which I assumed was routine) they told me to simply keep it if I could find a use for it or just incase the next order came damaged in some way I could hopefully swap out a part or two. I ended up with two benches for the price of one with zero hassle, and more concern and assurance than anything that they would be able to provide me with a flawless product this time around.. This is hands down some of the best customer service I have ever recieved from a company!

Hat's off to you NewAge product's, you definitely gained my respect, support, and earned a returning customer!.

Echoing what TonkaJoe just said about Newage Products, I was very impressed. I had a cabinet damaged during shipping and didn't notice it until I was about to install it. Called the number in the packaging and they took great care of me. I was alittle worried that they thinner gauge would be too thin but they will be fine for majority of things I'm storing in them.

I took the door into sherwin williams and they matched it so I could paint the wall. LED lights will be in the future too.

I bought a grey NewAge cabinet in 2013, from Costco.ca. It was called NewAge Locker Cabinet - Item# 306572, price C$224.99. I take it, that it was the 24 gauge locker of the day.

One of the doors never quite closed properly, misalignment of the magnet or hinges or something. But otherwise it has done the job for my casual use.

I store very heavy things on the shelves, and intended to lay plywood on them to prevent sagging. I never got around to that. But the shelves have not sagged at all, which is very impressive. They have ribs on the bottom to provide stiffness.

At my gym, the owner bought three Performance Plus wall cabinets and a locker. The wall cabinets were the Euro-type with the hinge at the top. The hinge(s) failed on one, such that the door fell open.

On the locker, the handles could not be made to line up (top of one handle is about 15 mm lower than the other), no matter how many hours he spent fiddling with the hinge fasteners. NewAge eventually sent him a second cabinet, but it has the same problem. You can actually see it in the picture on the costco.ca site, if you look closely.

I am considering the purchase of a set of Pro cabinets, because I want higher quality cabinets since stuff like the handles not lining up would drive me nuts. But I am very hesitant given the quality issues I have seen.
