Any uses for foot switches with power tools?

Hello

I picked up several used industrial foot switches up while "curbside shopping" recently. They are all rated 125V 15A with what appears to be Normally-Open and Normally-Closed contacts that change state when the pedal is depressed and return to original state when the pedal is no longer depressed.

The only usage I can think of when I am doing repetitive operations on the drill press. Are there any other uses?

I use a momentary foot switch on my shop vac when I’m using a miter saw in side. Shop vac gets connected to the dust port, and when I step up to the saw, I step on the switch to **** up the saw dust. Works great.

I think some folks might use that kind with their SWAG portable bandsaw setup. I was looking at their site, and saw foot switches were an accessory. Don't have my table yet, but someday will!

my porta band on a SWAG OFFROAD table kit has a foot switch . i mounted it on the wall behind the unit . fist bump on/off is so easy and much better than floor use .

I like that. I use a foot switch with my scroll saw.

Drill press as you mentioned, router and sabre saw (table mtd), and a small table saw.

They keep your hands free to handle the work and not fumble for the switch, when needed rapidly.

I got one with my SWAG bandsaw. Cheap one with no protection from accidentally stepping on it. Felt it was useless and more dangerous than needed. Replaced it with router table switch.

I have one connected to my central vac/cyclone on a cord reel hanging from the ceiling above my lathe and mill. I can pull it where I need it and makes clean-up easier, only runs when I need it and the metal chips are caught by the cyclone never making it to the vac.

I have a few foot switches in my shop. I love them.

I have one on my drill press, like you mentioned it was the most obvious tool to use it with. I never use the on/off switch, its very handy to line up whatever you're about to drill, and not have to move your hands to flick on the switch.


I have another footswitch that I have hooked up to an outlet box that I can move around. I use it on different tools depending on what I'm doing it.

I've use it on angle grinders, so that you can lock the switch on, and focus your hand dexterity on the handling the grinder rather than fiddling with the switch. I've used it on my plunge router, since the factory switch is kind of finnicky to unlock without moving the router too much. I've used it for bench grinders if I'm going back and forth to them so I don't have to leave them on for extended periods of time.

I have another footswitch that I have hooked up to an outlet box that I can move around. I use it on different tools depending on what I'm doing it.

This is my plan. A 4" square box, some sj cord, and outlet and a plug end and I have a portable foot switch for plug in tools like my bandsaws and possibly the drill press.

Thank you all for showing me all of you foot switch setups. I really like the handles to move them without bending over and the integrated storage positions on the equipment when not in use.

I use mine mainly on my router table.It lets me start and stop it safely.I have been using mine for 20 years.The pictures posted are amazing,the ideas that have come forward..Its got me thinking,I should purchase a few more.Great job guys,really enjoyed this post.

different foot switch but i just modded my blast cabinet foot valve with male/female quick connects for storage when not in use . this will also now let me use the foot valve for other air tools variable speed via my foot .

I assume you’re asking me. I have two. Just use them for bench work lights. I chopped a two head unit in half and fabbed new mounts for them.
