We run a truck salvage business, our main shop is 100x120, 16 ft high ceilings. Around 1500 square foot is partitioned into the office and break room areas, which are heated by electric heat. We have no option for gas for various reasons. Likewise, propane is an issue due to the lot layout. For the past few years, we have kept the main shop 60 degrees by the use of 2 200k btu diesel torpedo heaters, but the noise is just unbearable. Attached to the main shop there is a 20x100 x12ft high axillary shop which becomes the main work area in winter as it is much easier to heat.

I thought about waste oil heaters, and still might, but the maintenance can be an issue sometimes. We generate around 6000 gallons of free diesel fuel every year, and around 2000 gallons of waste oil. I would rather just run the heaters on the diesel as it is a lot less messy, and have been looking for some vented diesel heaters but all i am finding are either small 30k btu japanese units, or waste oil heaters. Ideally, we would put a 75 or 100k unit in the small shop and one large 300k or 2 200k units in the main shop.

Anyone know of any vented diesel units that I am missing?

Shenandoah Diesel heaters
Commercial-grade heaters, designed for diesel, kerosene, or waste oil
Known models include Model 345 (350k BTU)
Vented, and typically wall-mounted or ceiling-hung

Thermo Pride ( Oil Burners )
Reznor models like the RA235 (235k BTU) or RA350 (350k BTU) can be configured with Beckett oil burners that accept diesel
Fully vented, commercial ceiling units
Commonly used in agricultural buildings

Lanair Heaters
Technically designed for waste oil, but their systems can run diesel with the right burner setup.
Units range from 140k to 325k BTU
Easier maintenance than Clean Burn
Made in the USA

Diesel Hydronic + Radiant Combo
Diesel-fired boiler (e.g. Weil-McLain with Beckett burner) feeding hot water to ceiling-mounted unit heaters or radiant slabs
More complex but dead quiet, efficient, and safe

You have a 100x120 garage that this 8k btu heater heats?

Nope 30x40 UN-insulated, but it makes a difference. I am building a room to keep my tools in and plan on running it in there once completed. I am sick of my tools getting condensation and rust when the seasons change, so I'm fixing that issue.

I do however have some military surplus versions of that heater and they are just as noisy as the salamander heaters, similar to this one...

Home heating oil use to be Diesel, any oil burner will burn Diesel, in fact we use to blend a little waste oil into the diesel as we added it to the heating oil tank.
