GJs,
We have a block wall in the kitchen of the Firehouse that we want to put a black and white vinyl decal of a fire truck on. The wall is obviously a uneven and rough surface. How difficult will it be to apply the vinly to the painted block wall?

Any other comments are appreciated.

Buy a cheap Overhead projector and paint the design. Lots cheaper and makes a much better job on rough surfaces.

If the block is painted (glossy), you may have a shot at it. Vinyl does not stick to porus surfaces. Most likely it will not stay on the concrete block. You could try high tac vinyl.

Your best bet would be to get a sign made and then attach the sign to the wall

How big do you want it?

I run a shop down here in Houston, Ill be happy to make it for ya for free (depending on just how big), just pay shipping...Unless you want like a 50x50 decal

As for the unevenness, it really depends, you can usually get it pressed in pretty well into the nooks and it will stick pretty well. but as long as you're not futzing with it there shouldn't be any problems.

You wont be happy with vinyl. Even if you could get it to stick, Paint it on, or have a sign made like others have said. If your not capable of painting the picture yourselves, contact the art teacher of your local high school and ask him if one of his better students might be up for the job. Thats how I got my start... I ended up doing 4 signs my senior year for local businesses. Oh so many years ago.

Not to disagree with folks, but any competent Vinyl Shop should be able to do what you want and apply it to your wall for you. There are a good number of specialty materials that are designed to adhere to rough surfaces like Brick and concrete.

I'm not affiliated with any of these companies, but they illustrate the products I'm talking about:
