Like surefire? Which i guess is the snap-on of the flashlight world? Or streamlight? Or other brands i cant think of? Every time i go back to the very big flashlight forum(cpf) i really want something else. My flashlight is my most used tool so i buy quality. I will pay a lot for one, but wouldn't imagine buying snap-on. I know there are cheaper lights out there but i don't like them. I guess it is the same difference for the tool crowd on this board. Those that buy snap-on or other when say craftsman would do the same. Okay enough rambling. Who likes and carries flashlights? Expensive or not. I carried a streamlight strion for a while, i carried an early model surefire led for a while, last year or so carried a surefire e1b really liked that one. Other day picked up the new surefire lx2. Right now it is my new favorite, super bright when you need it, and a low at your finger tips for every thing else.. So what do the fellow board members use or carry when you need to look in something dark? Or something goes bump in the night? How many of you carry one daily? Or at least when needed?

I love my Surefires! I have a 6P that I use around the house and for camping etc. I also have an A2 Aviator for work. The A2 is awesome, love the dual output! I wouldnt mind picking up another for the home.

I got a C3 and e2e. nice lights but the batteries are costly and they get hot if you run them for a long time.

Sure fire here too. Good light but it doesn't last long. An hr tops. The Mag Light in my Jeep, I put those batteries in it in 2002 and it still works fine.

I'm a little bit of a flashlight junkie. I'm a regular Surefire (6P and G2) and Streamlight user. My newest toy is a Fenix TK20. It's bright and takes standard AA batteries.

I didn't like the Surefire LED module for the 6P. There's too much blue tint to it, so it's hard to see details.

I haven't gotten to the point where I'm buying Malkoff LEDs or making my own. But, I'm not too far away.

I like this one. Inexpensive, uses AA's, and durable enough to use everyday. When I did plant maintenance on the graveyard shift, this one never left my side. I've lusted over the more expensive ones for years, but I hate expensive batteries that are hard to find.

wow would of never guessed this many with good taste!! I think every garage should have a streamlight stinger, strion, or lite box rechargeable. I personally like the new led stinger and strion models. They are rechargeable and there when you need it. Mount it on the wall and the light is ready to go... So anybody else??

I have a Surefire G2 with a LED bulb. The batteries last about 6 to 8 hours with the LED bulb. That is a lot better that the 1 hour run time with the standard bulb. It only cost me about 35.00 to upgrade the G2 bulb. I love this light. It's bright, lite and will take a beating.

My favorite light is the rechargable Mag Light. This light is so bright it is like having a hand held spotlight. The case is made from aluminum with o ring gaskets. Standard with most law enforcement agencies. This light will take a beating but it will also give one hell of a beating. Nice taper on the end to help you hold it while you wack the hell out of somthing. Great multi functional tool.

I have a few surefires, old L1 and A2 Aviator among my favourites. But my everyday carry is a streamlight microlight. My flashlights get beat up a lot when I carry them often so this little guy has a small footprint, doesn't weigh much, and runs off a single AAA. the diminuative size is great for getting the light into tight spaces. A big plus is that it's only 15 dollars, so on the rare occasion I damage or lose one, I'm not throwing down another 100 bucks to replace the light.

When I know I'm going to need more light or for certain situations, I keep the A2 on me. If I remember correctly, the red lights in the first stage keep your pupils from pinning much due to the wavelength of the red and allows for quicker readjustment to the available light when you turn the flash light off.

I carry one of those $10 Craftsman 2AA LED flashlights with me all the time. At work I just use the regular old POS Rayovac industrial 2d lights because thats what they give us and lights tend to get the **** beat out of them at work. In the garage and other places I have cheap 5 led Husky flashlights.

Personally I do have one or two expensive flashlights but I wouldnt carry them everyday: to expensive if you loose it which I have done with to many of my carry flashlights.

I have Mag lights in my cars and a flashlight that runs off of 18V rechargeable batteries from my other tools.

I think the rechargeable flashlight was $10, it lasts for hours at a time, and you always have a spare battery. Really bright too. Great for the garage and around the house.

I am a big fan of the Surefire G2 and 6P with the LED head, I have a few around the house and in my car. Very bright for the size, and priced decently.

You are correct. Your eyes need to adjust to the available amount of ambient light. For instance, if you have been inside a well light building for several hours, and then turn off all the lights, or go out into the moon light, it will take your eyes about 30 min to adjust fully and you are able to see at the best of your ability. Now turn on a flashlight for a few sec and then back off, you will notice its harder to see than it was before the light was turned on. Your eyes are RE-adjusting. Coloroed light is much easier on the eyes and doesnt cause them to fully "close" to the light. Thus its much easier to readjust to the ambient light. Green and red are the best, we use green in the cockpit. thats the basics of it...minus the technical mumbo jumbo.

I keep a couple $5 closeout NexGen Led flashlights handy, those are my go to lights. I have about a $25 Coast, but while its nicely made technology has moved ahead.

Fenix is the brand that tempts me, seems like a solid performer, and good quality and output for the buck. Amazon has a keychain size I almost bought, single AAA, but I kind of want something in the 3x AA size like my NexGen's, just with modern output.

Chances of me building a flashlight out of kit parts is pretty high.

Once you have used one, a low power red LED is very nice for night work when you don't want to lose your night vision or disturb anyone (wake up wife, in a movie theater, etc)

The new Surefire Strion LED is a great light.

Do you mean Streamlight?

Can you tell us what specifically you like about it?

I used to be a ******** Surefire fan, but the battery life, especially on their rechargeables, is starting to irk me (I mean how long the battery lasts before it needs to be replaced, not the light's runtime). I'm also not thrilled with how slow the LED lights have been to come up to speed with the incandescents (with the switches, etc.)

I meant Streamlight. I guess I didn't get enough sleep last night.

What do I like?
1. small
2. rapid charger included
3. plenty of light output. 3 levels.

I have two of the base model metal sure fires (6P?) and love them. Have the streamlight keychain light... amazing for what it is! Keep a 6D-cell Maglite in my jeep.. and yes it is waterproof! i've used it looking under a stream at night (don't know that I would take it diving, but it was submerged for a few minutes), PLUS it serves as a backup defensive weapon! I also have a 2D maglite somewhere but not sure where anymore. I used to keep up to 6 flashlights in my jeep... I need to put one in my Caddy now that it's the daily driver. Can never have enough!

Shurefire E1E ha in my side pocket every day only grip I have is it is tip up and catches a lot of **** on the lens in the shop. I want to try the E1lb as it is tip down and led.

I have a G2 for my go bag go here go there go for a week end ect.

I just this winter picked up a ultrabeam freedom it is a single cell 123 with a large head has 3 settings super bright 120 lumen, low , and strobe all done by clickey tail cap. Bad thing about this 40 dollar light no clip made more for a holster or gun mount (1" dia")

I had a crazy idea the other day about using a single HID projector light with a motorcycle lead acid battery. Anybody using HID?

I'm a huge fan of headlamps. You look incredibly stupid wearing one (even my dog gives me that look), but when you're working having your second hand available, rather than holding a flashlight is a godsend. The other advantage is that it's always lighting what you're looking at.
