Any info on what it is and how it works would be great.:headscrat

Don't think i understand what you mean. It attaches to the low press side of the compressor as shown in pic 2 on the low press head it just goes up and into the valve body. i have just the down spout thing connected to the intake right now and it ***** pretty good since i rebuilt the compressor. on the newer 242's there is only a intake filter silencer and that's it. I kinda just wanted to know what this is and is any better or if i should just buy a solberg type intake filter/silencer.

on the intake side? there would be an unloader? I'll take better pics of the working guts of the thing and see if that helps.

Pump may not have any reed or poppet valves inside it, this may be a sophisticated engineer's ********* of a replacement for a simple reed valve. Don't know, just a wild guess.

an engineer definitely had a ahhhaa moment when he came up with this creation. lol. There are reed valves in the head all of which i replaced and also honed out the cylinder walls and put new rings on the pistons.

That is probably an unloader valve. When the compressor shuts off, it bleeds off the air pressure between the check valve and the compressor outlet port so the motor can start without a load.

I'm guessing that it is a regulator valve for an engine driven pump. The opening on the top plate is the sense line and it will move the spindle against the spring to either bleed off air from the sense line or block the intake of the pump to prevent air entering the pump to be compressed.

I'm sticking with my guess above. Can you determine the flow path through the valve in the two different states?

I cannot determine the flow air inside the thing. It's not for a engine driven pump as everything i have is how it came in 1957, motor, compressor and tank. i looked up ingersoll intake unloader valve on ebay and found some things that resemble what this thing is but mine looks like a tank compared to the ones their selling now for 400 bucks. thanks for any help, i'm hoping the service guy will call me back sooner or later.
