Anybody make a no-scratch socket insert for painted bolts?

Something out of plastic maybe, that you put in a socket a few sizes larger than the intended bolt. I need to replace a fender and the mounting bolts always get scratched when I remove them with a socket, even when I line it with masking tape. I've seen them made for lug nuts but that is a complete socket. Need it for 10mm bolts for example.

There were some made a few years ago from matco and mac that had a plastic insert imbedded into socket but was torque limited and only up to 3/4 or 19mm if I remembered correctly my matco dealer might have a sae set left I can check tomorrow

I read someplace to use plastic shopping bags. Cover fastener, put plastic over fastener, put socket on. six point may be better for this

I have NO PROOF of this, but I believe the Snap On inserts are made by BOJO, as are some of their other plastic tools.

Just over a buck a piece (in sets) and Made in USA!

Yea, that's what I've been looking for, thanks. $7 is a great price compared to Snap On's $24 even with one less size, until I checked their shipping of over $12 for something that should be $3 by first class mail.

Gearwrench or ex-red makes a plastic insert and you use a bigger socket or wrench and they are cheap on eBay or Amazon. Easy to find can't miss them!

Don't ask.
I use plastic (zip-lock freezer bags work well).
Check with motorcycle accessory stores, (maybe JP Cycler or Dennis Kirk) I've seen plastic lined sockets for chrome bolts in some catalogs, not sure about the quality.

hi, i have been told some guys use "plastidip".it is that rubber like paint that peels off if you want. you could maybe spray the inside of the sockets or thr head of the bolt. that plasti dip has a bunch of uses
