Anybody ever make their own pot/pan rack?? Any pics, plans, ideas? I'm strongly considering making one...but can buy a pretty nice one on craigslist or something for $50-100

Running out of room for storage in the kitchen...wife brought up the idea of getting a hanging pot rack to free up some cabinet space. I never really thought of it..but I like those things actually..some are pretty unique or fit different styles. I dig the ones made out of old wooden ladders...but we need either a stainless looking or dark metal one to fit the rest of our kitchen.

Incase anybody doesn't know what I'm talking about..(like me just a few months ago..) Here's some links to some hanging racks...

Look in the Yellow Pages under "Railings". Usually a welder that makes up porch

railings will work with you for something customized like that. Make a small sketch

to give him an idea. Include some dimensions. Black wroght iron "S" hooks are available

commercially. I used an old iron window grate.

Hello. Hey if you really want personalized rack, search in your area for a blacksmith. Tell him/her what you have in mind and they will create it! maybe a little more money but definitely made in the USA and done to your taste!

That's a cool idea. There's probably some neat old metal that can be repurposed as it. I saw an old wagon wheel turned sideways that made a neat place to hang from.

I started to and haven't finished, like many things. We have a tiny kitchen, began by using a the bottom half of a set of folding attic stairs since **** made out of old ladders is in right now.

That's a good thought. If I didn't buy something, I'd planned to make them myself though. Can't afford anything blacksmith custom made...although that would be nice.

Local blacksmith here always has a ton of different hooks for sale, begging to be used on a project like this. Might be a nice touch.

Seriously, anyone can do this.

I'd paint the chain black and either use black forged hooks or I picked up a spool of copper refrigerant line to bend my own for some flavor. Heck, instead of chain, you could just use 4 pieces of copper line with hooks bent in the end.

My dad has a thing that he found on Osabaw Island while on vacation it was installed in the nets to allow fish to swim through but to keep turtles out I guess. I was about 95% buried in the sand & it took them 3-4 hours to dig it out I guess. It's oval shaped & aluminum or stainless steel ?? about 3-4 feet in diameter.

I designed this one myself, but a friend welded it up. This was before I had my MIG welder.
This was in my old house, and was designed to match the size of the island it hung above. It was about 3.5' x 9'
When I hung it up there, I climbed up on top and laid down in it, to show my wife it wouldn't fall on her head.

My dad made a really cool one that used an old factory pulley or gear. It was about 3' in diameter and you could spin it. I have to remember to get a picture of it.

That screams 'hold my beer and watch this'

Cant say Ive built one that hangs from a ceiling, but I did build a rack that hung from a wall. Just some square tube frame with some round tubes welded inside to hold the hooks. I never took any pictures before I gave it away so no pics unfortunately.

That's what I'm talking about!! That is sweet. I'd do a smaller, less intense version probably..but I love that design. Do you still have any of the sketches/designs from that?

I've got some big gears and engine hardware I've been looking for a good use of. Plan to make some kind of random furniture or decorations with. I think some of it may be a little too heavy..and hard to sell to the wife to hang in the kitchen though.. I've got a huge turbo with the turbine housing off of it that I plan to make some kind of a turntable/lazy susan out of at somepoint though..
