Anybody remember the Cummins tools rig?

It was pretty much a travelling Harbor Freight, except shittier. A semi truck would roll into town for a few days, sell ****** tools to everyone, then leave.

I always used to go check it out, but never bought anything.

Anybody else remember this?

They had brick and mortar stores here in K.C. They've changed their names now, selling home improvement materials as well as the same crappy tools.

Still have and use the ratchet straps I bought there over 18 years ago.
They last came around about 7-8 years back where I grabbed a 1 hp sawdust collector for $99. Still works fine.

That being said, 99.5% of the stuff was bad news, I would cringe watching guys drop $3-400 on pure junk.

They still stop here for a day or so per year. I've bought some decent leather gloves (dirt cheap) to use fencing.

Like Kev442, my jaw hit the floor when people would load up a few hundred bucks worth of **** tools. They were never buying the .5% of the decent tools there either.

Last one that came through here had some pretty decent stuff on it, mixed with the Chinese ****. I've had one of their $10 2½ ton comealongs kicking around for years with no problems. I also picked up my Homelite weedeater from them for a good price.

They come to my area (southern new mexico); from time to time... in general very low quality tools (as mentioned, lower then HF at times), but also some better stuff. They seem to have overstock better branded (NOS) stuff and also refurbished/rebuilt power tools from many of the better brands. I personally; never end up buying anything but can't help but stopping... looking! :)

I fell sucker to their "bargain" ads when I was a teenager starting my new job and had a little cash, and wanted a couple things in their flyer. I agree with the sentiments that their stuff is utter ****. An electric drill I bought lasted all of 6 screws before it melted down never to work again.

They sold what looked to be really heavy duty extension cords. Well turns out it's a **** cable coated with extra insulation. Stupid cords won't even power a 3/4 horse bench grinder with a wire wheel.

I did buy a little vice off of them that I still have today believe it or not. (I just found it after it was tucked away in storage for 10 years) :lol_hitti

I dug it out and bolted it down to my rolling tool cart a few weeks ago, figured i have nothing to lose - it's already looser and more wobbly than a new born calf, paint **** is literally pealing off like scales.

I remember those! God what a ripoff. They used to show up at flea markets in the area, and I know one particularly low-rent place that still sells them. They were hands-down the worst tools I've ever used.

I got a 6" angle grinder from them for $10. First thing I did was disassemble it, grease the gears and fix the snap rings that were about to fall off. I've used it several times over the past 8 or 10 years and surprisingly it still works good.

Still use my 1/2dr impact socket set fairly regularly. Probably had it 6-7 years. Going to get a set of Proto's soon so they'll just be in the Jeep for repairs on the trail. the 3/4 is almost silver its worn the finish off being used so much.

The one that came my way was called "Homer's"

I'm pretty sure it's Homier

They used to come to our mall parking lot every July until about 5 years ago, but I don't think they do many tent sales at all anymore.

Like HF, I've bought some junk and some pretty decent stuff from them.

The fiberglass handle of my sledge hammer broke the second time I used it, so I called them expecting to be SOL. I was asked to fax the sales receipt, and a new one was on my front porch a week later, and I still use it 10 years later.

When I worked at Rink's department store in the mid '80's we sold Cummins-Mack tools in red & blue packaging - is this the same stuff?

Don't remember what they were called back then, but they used to come to town in a semi when I was a teenager. I bought a 1/2" drive beam torque wrench from them 34 years ago to torque a manifold on my SBC, because they were the only place close enough to get to on my bicycle and I didn't have any other transportation with the pickup broken down.

That being said the torque wrench worked fine, got the job done, and it's still in my box today.

Homier's was the worst one. Cummins tools wasn't much better, but when they lost the lawsuit with the engine folks, who sold specialty tools, they changed their name here (I think it is Worldwide liquidators now). They seem to be mostly out of the tool one, at least in Independence. They used to carry a lot of Ridgid refurb's, for so close to the same price, as new, with a Home Depot just down the street, it made me wonder.

We have had them come to your local fair grounds several times over the years and like others I have bought some decent stuff and some **** from them. The set of 6 ton "speedway series" jack stands I bought from them 10 years ago are still going strong. My knock off hi-lift farm jack is still working pretty good as well from the Homier sale.

They used to come through my area about twice a year. Haven't seen them in a few years though. I did recieve one of thier small tool set one year for Christmas. Been saving it to give to someone else, maybe as a dirty Santa gift?

One like that was just in my town last week. Not sure what name it rolled under. Didn't even bother stopping in.

I couldn't post here without a pic. My haul from about 10 years ago. Out the door for about $30.

Yep. I've seen them as recent as a year or two ago. They always rent out the local VFW or Legion parking lot for the day. Good place to buy disposable tools, a step below harbor freight if possible, lol. I also have a set of their impacts I'm using in the garage. Bought a stool from them, thought it was a good deal, half the parts were missing when I opened the box, buyer beware.

they came around once up here about two years ago, picked up some Husky teflon tape for dirt cheap among other "disposable" stuff.
Most of the stuff is junk, but in some case (JY bags) junk is better than $$ stuff....anyone know if there is any type of route or schedule for them?

Looks like they changed their name to "tools now"; they seem to carry all of the "reconditioned" power tools that I remembered on their truck sales; they don't seem to indicate these traveling sales on their website but they do have brick/motor stores.... only in Kansas and Missouri! Seems they are based out of Spring Hill, Kansas.

They used to stop here once a year but it's prolly been 2+ years since I saw them last. Yeah. Most of it was **** but I bought a reman Milwaukee drill for $30 and told my self that if it made it through the weekend and finished the project I was working on I be happy. That has turned out to be the best drill I have ever owned. That thing will run circles around my old DeWalt drill
