Anybody remember their "blown-in" prices?

Just curious what you paid to have blown in done by a "pro"?

I called a few in my area (central Jersey) to get started on pricing.

First guy said $1.80 sq ft and doesn't have to look at the building. This is higher than I was expecting but they use all "virgin" cellulose , not seconds or curbside. Not sure that matters.

Second guy said he wants to see the building. Second guy also said I'm going to have a moisture problem on the underside of the metal roof.

I'll wait and let him see it. It will be 100% sealed with a 6mil poly vapor barrier, not sure where he thinks the air movement will be coming from.

I had a 32' x 56' shop erected with 12' studs. Local company installed 3 1/2" Fiberglas faced insulation in the studs and blew r-30 attic $1450 in less than 4 hours! That's 1792 sq.ft. I think.

I think I paid 660$ ( or real close ) for 1,200 sq. ft. of R32 in the attic. Quoted over the phone.

My Walls ( 2x6x10 ( on top of 36" of cement block )) was 800$ R19 Batts were used.

Both were done by the same Company.

I paid 900 for a 30 by 34 attic to R40, I put in the soffit vents and stuffed the fiberglass to stop the blown in from getting into the soffits, easier to do with no ceiling. They were done in a few hours

Home Depot quoted about a bucks foot. R-30i think. Local guys were about 68-85 cents a sq ft. I don't recall cellulose pricing. That was over the phone and I'm sure soffit guard thingies were extra

$.99 per sq ft of Owens Corning ProPink L77 at a depth of R19, installed, no extra charge for soffit vent baffle in every rafter cavity, includes building a dam around the access opening to hold back the insulation when you need to open the panel, and also includes attaching insulation to the panel.
R30, r38, r49, r60 also available at similar cost per sq ft (ie, r38 is $1.99)
Lifetime material warranty and 10 year workmanship warranty.
Most common mistake on workmanship is 'fluffing' the material by using too much air volume or too much velocity. The result is material fluffed beyond what the specs call for, and then the product would settle to below the specified r-value.

That's more like it! I'm right at 1200sqft also , $2160 is a bit much!

I still have 2 guys to call back, plus the one that wants to see the building, to get pricing.

I have all the baffles in, all they have to do is blow it in. My build is in my sig if anyone is interested.

Really don't want to pay 2k, I did all the walls for 600$.

It isn't that hard to do yourself. Lowe's and Home Depot have the blowers. Sometimes you rent, sometimes they are free if you buy enough insulation.

Home Depot sells a paper cover all with a hood for $8. That, a mask and eye protection and it isn't that bad of a job.

Second guy is higher than the first, $1.90 , and still says I'm going to have a condensation problem.

DIY it may be!

BTW...these guys all sound like they've never heard of insulating a garage/workshop? WTF?

Here is a snip from the quote for doing my shop attic. I did all the eave baffles myself prior to sheet rocking the ceiling, so it was an easy blow-in job for them, and ended up 18" deep, or about R60.
