I have two sets of Xcelite, I don't use them often, but when I need one, I need one. One set has smaller handles and runs up to 3/8". The other has larger handles and goes to 5/8" Both sets are hollow shaft.

I have a set of Pro Point (Princess Auto) metric nut drivers, colour coded, rubber grips and have not failed me yet. The hollow feature is really what makes them so special. A shallow socket on a spinner handle will not do what a nut driver can because of this. A socket can also come off of a handle, whereas the nut driver is one piece. I keep my set in a Kuny's bag so I can reach for them when needed.

I was always under the impression the GM socket head's were 9/32 and not 7mm.

Common sizes used 7,8,10,12

Magnetic tips would be awesome!

I use a 30-ish year-old CM set frequently, although it is mostly on electronics and hose clamps. Color coded handles and very handy. Really like my Xcelite set from the same era.

My Dad does electronics so I grew up watching him use them all the time. It's always kind of driven me crazy not having a set because I've run across a few situations that it would be nice to have them in. So I asked the wife for a set for Christmas.

I just got this for free because of the point reward stuff they do.
Craftsman 6 in. Flex Spinner

for hose clamps. the flex shaft prevents my incredibly strong hands from stripping their thingy in the thingy...

they are!
7mm on American cars is secretly the old 9/32" ;)

much like the supposedly "recent" size of 5.5mm (don't tell anyone, but it's really just the old 7/32" in disguise!)

I have be working on foreign cars for 40 years, and there was never a 5.5mm until the SAE to metric changeover on American cars.

I am another 1/4 drive spinner grabber.

I have a full set of 1/4 and 3/8 ratchet sets in one box and a complete separate 1/4 drive ratchet and spinner in an old M16 cleaning rod nylon snap case.

I looked at a couple driver sets but the ones I looked at were not the hollow shaft ones. My dad had a set of electricians with the hollow shaft that lets you drive a nut down a very long threaded bolt. As far as I'm concerned that is the way to go.

I get by with what I have. For now I'd rather spend money on tools I can't work around with something else.

In the three decades I have used my Snap-On SAE and Metric nut drivers;; I have never had a socket pull off the end.:lol::.. In smaller sizes, the outer diameter of a nut driver is less than the diameter of a socket; where the top has to be large enough to accommodate a 1/4 drive extension..... Makes access in tight areas easier.... also, The hollow shank is nice for spinning nuts off a long stud .... I have never regretted buying them.

As others mentioned, they're absolutely great for hose clamps. The main reason is that it's much easier to keep it on versus a flat screwdriver.

The drive handle is great to save space in the toolbox because you can use sockets, essentially the same as a nut driver (just not the hollow shaft).

Just by a handle, then use your existing sockets. Deep, shallow, 6pt, 12pt, all with one handle.

This works great in 1/4 drive. You have great feel for not twisting off small fasterners. I also have a 3/8 drive handle. I don't use it that much. If you're using 3/8 drive, you're probably using larger fasteners and not as worried about twisting them off, or you need more torque to get them tight than you can get from the screwdriver handle.

Klein has a cool 2-pack of hollow magnetic long shaft nutdrivers, in the two most used sizes for HVAC and similar work (5/16" & 1/4")

8mm and 10mm are the other two sizes I end up using a lot.

Those Klein's are an amazing investment especially for hose clamps.

I have a set of the Craftsman metric and fractional nut drivers.

The hollow shaft of a nut driver makes these more useful than a 1/4" driver and a socket.

They're very handy for hose clamps and metric set is great for working on interior trim (7mm) pieces. It's pretty simple magnetize them, but I can see how a having a true magnetic end would be useful at times.
