I was thinking about using insulation from metalbuildinginsulation.com. Much cheaper than fiberglass batt. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It's for a existing 30x48 pole barn.

Plan on using the WMP-VR-R.....Since the pole barn was built with post 8' over center it seems like this would be a good alternative to fiberglass batts. I've been pricing insulation and R19 batts at Home Depot & Lowes are around $2.20 a square ft while this stuff is close to $1.15 a square ft which includes shipping and tape. Attached is a link of the insulation I plan on getting if all goes well. Seems like it would be easy to hang.

Seems to me you'd be better off buying some foam sheets and insulating with that. It'll help a bit in the summer and very little in the winter. Looks just like bubble foil to me.

Looks like a fiberglass batt with a vinyl facing, I've dealt with it on a new building but not a retrofit, nice stuff and the white really brightens things up.

Whoa, check your calculations.

The home depot/lowes should be way less. It should be around $0.50/SF, perhaps a little more.

Typical bag of 15" material comes with 10 batt's @ 48SF per bag. unless it's a Owens Corning super saver bag, which has 16 batt's instead of the usual 10. Is this Paper Faced insulation? We don't use that up head but I can't imagine it adds that much to the price.

The wider insulation such as 23"/24" comes more to a bag, but is still the same price per square foot as the 15".

I have the 2" vapor barrier stuff in both my new and old shop. It works great when installed between the purlins/girts and the siding. It keeps the rust at bay. I don't know what the retrofit stuff will do but I suspect that it will be cut correctly as the stuff that came with my building fit as it was supposed to.

I did, well, am doing my shop with it. I got the WMP-VR I believe, in 15" wide batts for the walls, and 4' wide batts for the ceiling. R19 in the walls, and R30 ceiling. My scissor trusses are 4' oc and I've done three so far. It's heavy, and a pain in the *** to get up there and tight. Done the conventional way, under the purlins/against the roof would have probably been easier, but so far I'm happy with the outcome.

Thanks for the info chicken hauler! I went to lowes today and priced the r19 fiberglass batts. Nine pack of faced 23"x93" r19 was $55 which comes out to cover 133" square ft. That is approx $2.40 a square. Much cheaper to go the fiberglass blanket route.

your math is backwards

23"*93"/144 = 14.85sqft * 9 = 133.7 sqft

$55/133.7sqft = $.41 per square foot

It's nothing more than fiberglass insulation with a fancy facing that you can leave exposed. I did it mainly because I had no plans on making "finished" walls. The plus side is, it reflects light great.
