Anybody use windshield wiper removal tools?

Anyone have/use any windshield removal tools? I see there are a couple different types, just wondering if I need any of them. If you have needed one before what vehicles did you have to have it for?

I just use my 5 ton 2-jaw puller. It looks funny when you got this huge puller on the wiper arm but it works just fine.

i take off the nut holding the arm on and then smack the wiper arm at the pivot point into the glass. this will cause the part that gets bolted down to come free.

if this does not work, then a 2 jaw puller is used.

I showed a customer how to change a blade on a Caravan. I did one and he cracked his windshield doing the other!! He made the mistake of leaving that long arm in the up position as he fiddled getting his new blade out of its package and the spring forced that arm down on his windshield cracking it. I quickly ran back into the store and hid!

First thing my friend told me while I was doing my rear wiper blade, "that arm WILL crack the glass if it swings down".

Direct hit from a small brass hammer to the wiper stud and itll pop right off. Its the wrong/dangerous way to do it, but it works.

A battery cable puller often does not have enough reach. They make universal windshield wiper arm pullers.

I went out and took a picture of my Snap-on battery cable puller on a wiper arm. Note that the forcing screw is fully retracted and the puller arms are not long enough to get under the wiper arm.

I was looking around this morning and looks like the wiper arm pullers are only 10-20 bucks so might be good to pick one up sometime. I don't have a battery terminal puller either so will have to look into one of them also, guess I've never needed one. All the cables I've done I've always been able to wiggle them off the post, are there really times the cable clamp is that tight on the post that you have to use a puller to get it off?

Seems like there are a couple different styles.

The first one is pretty simple looking, slips under wiper and force screw down.

Then there are a few others I don't really understand.

I'm sure that works most of the time but I've been trying to do things "right" in the past couple years. If the puller is only 10-15 bucks it's worth it to me to do it right rather than risk damaging something. If the puller was 50-100 bucks than yes I would say screw that and grab the pry bar also! I've always used the crank bolt to put the harmonic balancer back on but just bought a used blue point harmonic balancer installer for 20 bucks shipped. The tool cost is worth it to me to eliminate some of the risk of screwing things up by not having the right tools.

For $15, I'd just buy the wiper puller tool. Cheaper than a replacement windshield.

As far as stuck battery cables - yep, had a couple of those I've had to get Channelocks and Vise-Grips out for. "Why do I need to clean the battery post and wire terminal when I put it back on?" Urgh.
