Not finding a whole lot on this..

Curious on the difficulty and cost to accomplish..?

EDIT: I just found out that it has to be re-sealed and/or waxed yearly. May be too much for a simple garage floor.

We do acid staining. What do you want to know about it? We recommend re sealing the product every 2 years if its a residential basement floor. A garage would suggest to do seal it every year but its only about an hour of work to roll a 2 car garage. I would put down 2 coats of sealer the first year and seal again every year. On a commercial floor we put down 2 to 3 coats of sealer and depending how much foot traffic it would see anywhere from 3 to 7 layers of wax. All the wax is doing is protecting the sealer which is protecting your floor. So the sealer is just added protection. Just to ask why are you leaning towards staining over an epoxy for garage? If you have any questions feel free to send me a message.

Well - for me, its more aesthetics than function. I don't a LARGE amount of work out there.. I don't work on my own cars, and my workbench projects are limited to some small woodworking jobs. Still learning that skill and that may increase over time.. but for me, aesthetics are the main goal.

What is the cost like, for a 3-car garage? Cheaper or more expensive than epoxy?

The re-sealing is what may kill it for me.

Seems from what you are describing acid stain would work perfect. The price can fluctuate all over the place as if you just one a one color job with no saw cuts or any work like that not knowing where you live but you are in the 1.50/sq ft range maybe a little more if they use a more commercial sealer for it being in a garage. If budget is concern I would go with a one color job. If cost is not an issue I would go with something like a 2 color application say a 2 ft boundary around the exterior in a darker color and the rest of the floor in a lighter color just to give it some detail. Say its 650 sq feet a one color stain with 2 coats of stain and a sealer we would do ball park of 1.50/s.f water based epoxy with clear coat and heavy chip pattern about 2.10/s.f. and 100 percent solids epoxy with heavy chip and clear top about 2.50/s.f. We use more water based stains and are looking into a new product that is soy based as more and more people are leaning towards "green" building products. It is also easier to clean up than acid based products not to mention if you are going to do this yourself unless you have a supplier close to you willing to sell to you shipping is all Hazmat on acid based products almost more than doubling the price.

Wolverine Coatings actually has a lot of products that they don't list on their site. Much of their work is with commercial accounts who need custom formulations, a lot is with companies who label under their own names, and then there's just product that doesn't make it onto the site because other customer service chores take priority.

Let me know what you're looking for and we can go from there...

We have thousands of formulations and products. Keep in mind that we never had any intentions of going into the residential market. So, we've never put those products on the web. Up until Fred came along... those types of products had a 1000 gallon minimum order. As we see a need and as it makes sense profitability wise... we'll introduce those products.

I don't think we are ready to package the actual acid stain for the general public yet, but I don't have a problem with Fred selling all of the clears that I mentioned. Let him know what you need... Also, you can register on our forums and leave a post there for what you need. Fred is checking that regularly.

I am just starting my research on floor covering for my shop, the floor is down walls and roof up last fall so now is the time to finish it up – reading some posts on the board I am not sure if acid stain is correct for me, and if it can be done properly by an individual or not.
To give you a little back ground – this is my new shop were I will run my hot rod restoration business from, I am not far from retirement and it will be my personal shop at that time.
The building is 40x100 with in floor heat – I have several pieces of equipment that is moved over the floor constantly like jacks, cherry pickers, most of that stuff has steel wheels on them. I do a lot of fabrication work so the floor is hit with sparks from grinders torches ECT – so the covering has to be tuff.
Some of the biggest reasons I want to coat the floor are to stop the concrete dust and be able to put some color on the floor to make it brighter clean place to work, and to stop those dam ugly spots on the floor after something has been spilled.
If an acid etched floor is damaged by say something sharp and heavy being moved or dragged across the floor can the floor be repaired – does it need resealed every so often, and given the square footage is this something that I realistically can do my self.
Cheers

We did the acid stain on indoor floor - looked great until we put a 2nd clear coat down and parts of clear coat are "bluish" or cloudy. Is there a simple way to remove the clear coat?
