I've seen advertisements for companies that will outfit your garage.... I think a guy who posts on here runs a company like this. I think it'd be a really neat job to help people spec out and build work/garage spaces, but I'd assume the market (especially in this economic climate) is severely limited. Anyone use anything like this or know of anyone who has? I know whatsheraname Kardashian had that done for Bruce Jenner on the Kardashian's show, and that's the type of person I would envision using that kind of service.

**For the record I don't go out of my way to watch that show. My GF of 4 years lives with me and sometimes I have to let her watch what she wants to watch ;) Allthough the bewbage isn't bad at all

Um. . . noooo.

But then, I work as an architect so I do my own design / planning. Not that I've paid much attention to my own garage for the last several years after I did my initial peg board wall / mini-work bench setup.

Most people I know who have been around shop all their life have their own rough concept of what their garage should be and enjoy the creativeness of setting things exactly the way they like it. I think this process makes the garage their own creation.

I built the garage my wife helped me organize it. That was as complicated as I wanted to go with the design of my garage.

I have used a couple - one at Grizzly because it has more machines available for placement. But I still find - LOL says the linked in, wireless computer network guy - that a pad of 8 1/2 x 11 graph paper and a pencil works well. Most of the on line organizers use flash and they can be a little bit awkward to use.

If you have any graphics programs, you can also use that. I use Fireworks for everything here because I hate Photoshop. Draw boxes as fancy as you like and label them. Most higher end programs work in "layers" so your box and text are two separate entities. Group each box and label. Your base layer is the shop perimeter. Once you get all that, you can just drag and rotate your boxes around until you confuse yourself into a coma. I'm working one, I'll post something when I get some extra time.

Just DIY it...then again my wife is an interior designer (NCIDQ, LEED) and I'm very into design and knowing what I want. Doing your own design will save a lot of money. Just browse this site to get some ideas you like and run with them.

To clear things up I'm not saying I want to use a designer or pay someone. My garage is pretty much done. It was more along the lines of thinking it'd be a really neat job to design people's garages, but I doubt there's much of a market for it. Was wondering if anyone knew anyone who'd actually paid to have a designer come in and re-do the garage.

Thinking about it some more.... those types of people would never post on a forum like this.

When I was unemployed for a time, I looked into getting work at Closet World and companies like that for the same reason. A lot of them do garage/ shop systems. I had lots of experience with storage and thought designing and installing garage systems and the like would be fun.
But I never got anywhere, they seemed to be looking more for real "designer" female types than practical experienced male types. I just thought I could be the garage /shop specialist, but they never seemed interested, maybe just not a lot of demand. I'm not sure about the real numbers in that industry. Never could afford to get my own franchise type of thing. But it still sounds like it could be niche market, but in down economy, maybe not.
Never used any of the companies, but did do some garage shelving and closet systems installs when I was a handy man. Good luck.

had to look up "bewbage"...........got some eyefulls at work computer.... doh!
