CMU on the back side, one layer of brick on the outside. Planning on drilling a series of holes on the brick side with masonary bit and cutting it out with an angle grinder. Then probably doing the rest with a cold chisel. CMU doesn't bother me, brick makes me nervous. Anyone done it? Thoughts and advice?

What is CMU? I've done that in a concrete block wall - 1/4 masonry bit drilled around the perimeter and try to get each hole as close to the next as possible. Then I just LIGHTLY tapped it with a hammer and it fell out... made a perfectly round hole that way for my drain.

If you mean concrete masonary unit you can easily drill a series of holes verry close to one another with a hammer drill and a carbide masonary bit, But not Brick. Your better off renting a core-bore drill with a daimond bore tool. the boring tools are avilable in many different diamaters from 2" to 12" The job will look great when your done.
