So im going to rant a little bit to get my point across. We have a Snap On guy who comes to our shop my boss tells me when i first started, i was excited as i always wanted to get into Snap On products. Anyway, im in school and during the week i start work at 4pm, but the Snap On guy comes at 1-2pm on fridays. no problem, i'll give him a call or email him what i want and he'll find a way to see me another time right? wrong. 6 Months of emailing, calling, any possible way of contacting him, i've gotten nowhere. I tried to call him one day and he didnt answer, i waited half an hour and tried again, nothing. So i tell a guy at work, An experienced mechanic of 30+ years, and gives him a call not 2 minutes after i tried, and he picks right up for him, and im thinking to my self "Are you serious?". Its just been a nightmare, so now i just order all my Snap On tools online, but i'd still like to see things in person before i buy and have the ease and speed of a truck dealer purchase. Anybody else have any issues like this? Should i keep trying or just keep ordering online? again i'd really like to buy off the truck but it just really ***** that the local rep is awful.

He is busy.try and find where he will be when you are available and meet him there.he isnt going to lose regular business for you but after you are a customer you better believe he will answer your calls.give us an example of your email and we can get a better idea how to help you.my snappy guy got alot nicer once I started paying more than the minimum payment.he has better or ill go online and he loses my regular payments .he even warranties my snap on military tools now though they have no warranty at all.I pay him about 200 each payday twice the minimum each time and when I need to skip a payment he doesn't get upset.I also dont hide from him when I cant pay.its just business man.

Oh yeah and he allowed my truck account(no interest)to max out at 4000 so he went from being a **** to being great once he saw my ethics.

Talking sockets, ratchets, wrenches they're all filled with USA made. Snap-On is merely the most dedicated with regards to first party items. They most certainly aren't the best at everything, just look at their freakishly tall impact swivels or skinny beam extra long combos.

There are some nice import tools out there as well, namely things like Matco high performance flex/ratcheting wrenches or MACs 6pt ratcheting.

Anyone in the auto repair field is selling themselves short becoming brand loyal to any of them. Its in your benefit to sample from everyone.

Send your girlfriend with a printout of the page(s) of the items you want and money. I bet she can get there before 1pm when not enrolled in school (yet.)

You're not that busy.

Skinny beam extra long combos... you mean these? Whats wrong with them? :dunno:. I've broken rusted to hell brake caliper bolts loose easily with them, no issues and still love them.

That's not a combo wrench...that's a double box wrench

I'm talking about the OEXL/OEXLM wrenches.

Just wait and buy through the SEP program. If the driver is that lousy though look into Matco or MAC for stuff you're going to break. Less USA made stuff but still pretty good and usually cheaper.

Try another snap-on guy. I switched mine and have never looked back. I either meet him some where he is selling or meet him at his house. I go out of my way for the service. I think I paid retail 2 times. One thing was a special order. I don't remember the other, it was probably to cheap to really discount. I like giving my Snap-on guy the business, he treats me well.

I would give the current guy one more shot for your convenience, after having a talk with him. If he does not want to deal with you, then find someone else who does.

Yeah im drunk on it-sarcasm.its just the facts.

I agree, I'm set on Snap On, ive tried Matco, and theres not even a Mac guy in our area, but i have tried there tools. In the end Snap On is just my preference, and i think there the best if you can afford it.

I've been in a similar situation. Spend your money elsewhere. It's easier to move on than start a battle. I love snap on tools, just not our guy.

I'm not so sure your local Snap-On guy is awful. Sounds like he takes care of the guys he knows. He doesn't know you, and you're not willing to get to him on his schedule. Maybe he picks up his kids after school and can't see you on Friday at 4 at all. Give the guy a break.

Your Snap On guy isn't bad IMO. He probably has other commitments. Maybe he has family commitments or another area where he has regular customers.

These guys will always take care of their regulars. It's not his fault you aren't there when he is.

Nope, he'd have to actually stop by the shop and be a **** to be horrible. He came by one time about a year ago, I asked him to order some stuff for me, and never seen him since. I know hes still around I see him all the time. Don't know how though, he had maybe 4 tools on his truck.

I think some of you did not read the OP, he has been trying to contact him and he does not respond, piss poor business practice. And to only serve your "regulars" is just plain dumb. What happens when they leave, retire, etc.? Also, how can you get more regulars if you do not pursue leads?

Our local SO guy is the same way, so now I simply deal with SO online. Some of the nicest English speaking ladies you will ever get from customer service!

Perhaps you should check your "facts".

Ok not all but definitely way more than snap on.cheapens the brand name but not price.Matco is more imports everytine I get on the truck.without a price reflection.but its got me thinking is there any proof usa made are stronger?I try to buy usa wherever possible to support my country.that is the only reason though.

I agree with tbagzz. Snap on has the MOST USA made tools in their line up. Not talking blue point. Can you buy USA made terminal tools from the other 3 trucks? You can from snap on. Everything in Cornwells catolog besides the hardline stuff is made by someone else in some other country. Want some good quality USA made panel(door interior) tools? Can't get those from anyone but snap on. Are they more? Yes. But top to bottom they have the most complete USA made tools made by them. Not someone else with their name on it. All this said. I do not own only Snap On tools. I have a few Cornwell ratchets. Channellock and Klein pliers. Craftsman USA sockets and wrenches. But I have a lot of snap on too. The point others are making is don't just buy only snap on. There are other quality USA made stuff out there that can get the job done for less

I think you've both got some fault. If I were him, I wouldn't be willing to make another stop at the shop or rearrange my route just for you, some guy who's never bought anything from me. OTOH, I'd also return your calls, because hey, I like money. That part would make real me kinda iffy... if he can't be bothered to return a call to potentially secure a new customer, what other ****** practices does he have?

My guy comes Wed. between about 11 and noon. Last semester I had classes all 5 days until about noon. I asked him once if he could rearrange a couple stops (we're right in the middle of like 40 shops in a few mile radius) so he'd be an hour later, and he didn't. I didn't get particularly pissed at him, but it cost him some sales for 4 months... if I really, really needed something though, it wasn't that hard to find him on my way to the shop.

Sounds like both of you got off on the wrong foot. Get someone to vouch for you and arrange to meet somewhere he is at a time you can meet, then find out if he *****. He might indeed **** (the other SO guy in our area sure does) or he might be cool... ya never know until you try.

This. No good tool rep is too busy to make time within 6 months for a potential new client.

Take the hint and go elsewhere. Imagine how it will be when you need to return a tool.

Guy sounds like a real winner. If he didn't pick up for you but he did for his other customer, maybe he's in over his head with SO and was trying to avoid creditors.

I'm not a professional so take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I am in the retail game.

Where I work we have 4 separate sales reps all selling the same type of wares, 2 of my reps are in here every week doing their job (selling me **** I don't need) every once in a while if there is a good special and they catch me on the right day I'll bite, it's their job and of course they make commission on sales. The other two I didn't see for the first year I was here, same situation, tried calling they never returned my calls. So I gave up and just started giving away their space to the reps that came in. My new boss likes to pander to those two idiots by texting them what we need. I'm of the belief that I am not going to do some one else's job so that they can earn commission on it, but my boss feels differently.

To me it sounds like your $$$$'s are not green enough for your snappy dealer, if where you live is big enough try to find another local dealer who wants to grow his business and work with you. Otherwise as other have pointed out online is another option

Where do you live? Iv been dealing with the same Snap-On guy (Dan Keane in Ft Worth TX) for the past 6 years and I always have great service. But there's another dealer next to his area that hardly anyone likes to deal with. I havent worked in a shop in a years but I just call the rep I like and meat up with them during the week or on the weekend.

Mine didn't even show up this week. My only real issue is, everyone in the shop had orders, that should have came in. And our Solus was to be upgraded, that is some ********.

Madison, Wisconsin. As far as I know he's the only Snap On dealer in our area

I saw my current Rep at a shop by my house, so I stopped, jumped on the truck, interoduced my self, shook his hand and asked for a card.

He said he was out of cards but printed out a blank invoice with his name/number at the top and gave that to me.

I told him I am not a professional mechanic but I will be buying a few things from time to time and that when I do want something I can meet him just about wherever he is.

He said that sounds good and I was on my way.

Few months later I wanted something, called him up, told him what I was looking for. He said he had it, he was in X area and wanted to know when I was available. Told him anytime in the next hour. He said in 30min he would be at Y location and meet him there.

Done and Done.

Your guy sounds like he is dodging phone calls for a reason. But why he is not responding to an email is kinda strange.

I would say, if you really want to be buying something from him, have your friend call him again, pass you the phone, introduce yourself, explain your situation and see what he says.

Meeting him at one of his other stops might be the best solution. Or, not buying from him might also be your best solution.

Made me think of this:

Your guy is basically telling you that you aren't good enough for him to do business with.

I wouldn't walk across the street to do business with a guy with that. F him and take your business somewhere else. Your dignity is worth more than a tool box full of snapon jewelry.
