Anyone else having problems with words being asterisked out on this Forum?

I do not know what is causing it. It may be something I did in some preferences somewhere.

Just last week it started. Any word that may just be the least offensive to someone turns out with all of the letters showing up as asterisks in the forum. Even in the Garage Sale thread the word "****" in "you ****" is asterisked out. Any clues what is causing this?

OK, I just posted this and this sentence is a edit. When I type this the word **** shows up just fine. When I post it, then it becomes asterisks. When I went to edit the original post, the words are fine in the edit. Then they asterisk out when I push the SAVE block to repost it.

But if you’re seeing Free Parking, and posting, you must be logged in and I think the ***** thing is only supposed to apply to guest / not logged in.

Well, I just read Ryan's post you included. Even in his explanation, guess which word in the phrase "pain in the ***" is asterisked out when I bring it up to read it.

You should only see censored words if you are logged out. Can you send me a screenshot of you logged in with censored words?

well, that did not seem to change anything. Perhaps I did not get whatever is causing it cleaned out of the cache?

Strange. This only happens on the GJ site. Even other Atomic sites like The Ford Barn do not do this.
I have cleared cache. Done a complete cleanup of disc, etc.
I have even changed computers, this post is from my old backup computer that would not update to windows 11.
I have run a scan using Webroot, Malwarebytes free and even downloaded Microsoft Safety Scanner and run it. No virus or malware found.
Tried using a different browser, no change.
It's not just the stuff I type, but other peoples posts that are asterisked out. See screenshot below. I am at a total loss why.
GJ is my favorite forum and I will continue to use it, just strange not to be able to see some words, even though they are not all that offensive.

@Debcrow what advertising agency do you work for? 😉

Go back and read Ryan's post about why he had to implement the "censor". While it's odd in the way it seems to be affecting you, he really isn't changing anything about the forum.

This thread is kinda hilarious. "How can we possibly be understood clearly without swearing?"

I often enjoy spicy language myself, of course. Sometimes it's just the right seasoning, you know?

I'm a member on a vintage motorcycle forum with a very locked-down naughty list due to the owner's preferences. I think it also contributes to a somewhat higher-class experience all around by nudging the inmates away from crudeness.

For a very long time, we couldn't openly discuss our fuel valves because "petcock" would get censored as "pet****". It was both hilarious and frustrating, since petcocks are a nearly universal trouble spot on vintage motorcycles, and every discussion of petcock rebuilds, replacements, diaphragms, and such would get sidetracked by the issue. We had to resort to "fuel valve" or "pet-you-know-what" or "pet chicken".

Eventually, he figured out how to let "petcock" through while maintaining proper purity of language otherwise.

I'm logged and am seeing posts with censored words as well. Makes it kinda hard to read a post especially when its a word that shouldn't be censored in the sentence it was used as it wasn't used as a profanity.

You may want to point out if you are being edited, or deliberately putting in ***. Otherwise, it is much less helpful for troubleshooting those people who do have a real issue.
The smily face was indicating it was a joking response...Sorry if it didn't translate to that

Ok, here is a screenshot of the above post on my PC after I posted it. It is like there is a profanity checker program, and possibly that is what it is. I just do not know why it suddenly started on my PC and only on the GJ Forum. And why is it on this PC also, which I have not used in awhile. I do not have any of my devices linked.

I would suggest clearing your cookies again…

Also, write a letter to the FCC and complain about all this ****.

Did your PC recently do an update ? Is there there something now stuck in your PC account preference like set up as a "child" and not Administrator ?

Also is this an issue if you are using Duck Duck Go as a browser ? maybe log in using Chrome or Edge ?

I have searched (the best I can with my limited knowledge) for anything that would indicate a filter for kids. Deleted cookies several times. I have also tried using chrome and edge on a different PC. Nothing I can find. What seems strange is that it only seems to be on Garage Journal.
I guess I will have to live with it.
