Anyone else like Channellocks?

This is my contribution. Some 440's I got for a few bucks at a flea market. At first I thought the blue handles were removed, but after some research, they may be pre- blue handle Channellocks. What do you guys think?
Edit: They actually look similar to JakeMacs from a few posts up.

Nice old pair of 440s. I think you're right, they're pre-blue grip.

Metaldad... do you think that there is a support group that you can go to in your area? Some type of meeting or 12 step program? The third or so picture below, with 41 pairs of channel locks (14+27 by your report) piled on top of each other as your personal collection... that's not normal behavior.

As you come face to face with your channelholicism... GET A GRIP!

Goodness knows you have a choice in how.

Okie dokey. I see that this thread is still around. Time for some updated photos:
First, is my service truck channeys on the right. Carage ones on the left. Vehicle ones on top. I count 14.

Next is the tool chest, and the various drawers thruout the house. I count 27

Next, all piled together, for proof.

And my drivers. Metrics and SAE. Phillips, slotted, and multi's. I count 40

I add up 81. Did I win?

Ok - someone needs to stop me.

I discovered this thread about a month ago, at that time the only Channellocks that I owned were a pair of cable cutters. Now I own 12 "new to me" pair. That includes the 3rd pair of 420's that I picked up today. Most of the slip-locks are pre posi-lock. I need to stop, but I can't. CURSE YOU JIM C, FOR STARTING THIS THREAD !!!!!

That's it ! No more !!!

well ................. I still don't have a pair of 440's

............... or 460's ........ 480's .............. MAKE IT STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!!:willy_nil

Uh, I just bought my 7th pair of 420's, I have 8 other pairs in the actual "Channel" design, plus 15 pairs of other CL designs and 4 or the earlier CeeTee trademark.

Your just getting started!

I've bought a few too many as well, but not suffering from channelholicism yet. My wife is beginning to ask if I really need more tools, so it's time to start using the tools in front of her. I need to change the AC filters this weekend, so time to be creative.

Here's a photo of Channellocks so far:

Sorry Jakemac. That's how it started with me. I had a couple pairs of Channellocks, then I bought another one, and the next thing you know, I've got a whole drawer full of them. I started this thread so we could all enjoy each others "blue binges." Post a few pictures when you get a chance.

BTW, I'm also a big fan of Craftsman =V= tools!

Okay Outlaw, I gotta ask...... What do you do with seven pair of 420s? If you're looking for more, a GJ member (Super Sport) is selling NOS 420s for $11 shipped. I just got a pair from him. I'll post a picture or two.

I learned from ganymede in Post #244 of this thread that CL stopped using the nut on the slip-locks sometime in the early 80's. That's all I know so far.

Here's the exchange :

I don't know the history of CL and never really took a good look at them even when I was selling them.

You'll have to tell me. The patent date is 1953, but those dates can be stamped on the tools for decades sometimes.

ganymede said:
Yup. Good ol fashioned nut n bolt.
They stopped doing that in the early 80,s.

Yesterday, this NOS pair of Channellock 420 pliers arrived in the mail. I bought them from GJ member, Super Sport. He's selling several NOS Channellock 420s for $11 per pair. That price included the cost of shipping! I thought it was a pretty good deal. The pictures don't really tell the story. These pliers are truly NOS! They've never been used. Check the Garage Sale Classified ads. He may still have some left.

I have a pair of 420's and a 318. The 318 is uneven, one side is fatter than the other and they don't really 'lock shut' like my others, even my lowly Kobalts.

I've had channellock vise grips in the past, now I have mostly Irwin as the other ones broke.

I was actually thinking the very same thing! Prior to receiving them, I told Super Sport to send me a good pair because I planned to use them. After receiving them, I've reconsidered that idea.

These have the nut+bolt and no blue grips.

Sorry, but when I get them for maybe a buck, it's hard to pass. Today I got this latest pair included for free. :dunno:

I guess I asked for that! If I could find them for little or nothing, I'd probably have several too! :lol_hitti

whaddya need, in trade or price.

Like I said, no one posted them earlier because there's probably not too many complete sets out there in that condition. I'd like to have that set too! Good luck prying them away from Mr. Hofferwood......
