Travis, I thought of you today - found a hardware store that specializes in closeouts and NOS, but did not find any Channellock in the pouches.

I don't have a pair myself, but bought my buddy some off the matco van a while back when i was at a previous workplace (the matco franchise in the UK is odd as its seemingly owned by a car dealership group and only serves them...)

seem really good, wish i had got a few sets myself as i prefer them to my snapon pliers, on par with the knipex ones i have but seem a bit sturdier

as an aside who made/makes mac pliers, as the ones i owned (sadly mostly lost...) seem very much like chanellocks in style and material

Had these 317's on clearance at Walmart today. I bought all five pair they had. Lol. One of them is in a different style of packaging?

How much were they on clearance? Were just the 317's on clearance or is Walmart getting rid of the entire Channellock line?

Guy I used to work with had a pair of 422 and 432 but instead of them have the V jaw, they were rounded. Made alot more contact on pipe. I have been looking for a pair for a couple years and all I find is the V jaw. Looked like these.

they rust, but I love them, I dont use pliers much, mostly wire strippers, crimpers, and needle nose. I just got a couple pairs of the gear wrench long reach double needle nose, I like them a lot too...

I wish channel lock would come out with some new designs, I think I have all of their current ones, just because...

Wow Travis!! I had no idea that Channellock even made clutch head drivers. Those type of screws were popular on 1950s autos. I have a complete set of Craftsman clutch head drivers from the 1960s. Craftsman stopped carrying them in the early 1980s. Unless you're working on old cars, you'll probably never use them.....but they're still very cool!! Nice find.

Good info.
Thanks.

I'm mostly familiar with two "types" of clutch head screws. There was a "Type A" which resembled a bow tie, and a "Type G" which sort of looked like a butterfly. I believe the set depicted above consists of different sized Type G drivers. Type A clutch head screws occasionally showed up on GM vehicles manufactured during the 1940s and 1950s. I ran across them once on a 1958 Corvette. I'm not sure if they were original to the car or not, but as I recall, they looked to have been in place for years and their condition matched the patina found throughout the rest of the car. I also saw them on a fully restored Gulf Stream camper/trailer. The restoration appeared to be top notch and I'm guessing that the clutch head screws were correct for the restoration itself. For the most part, clutch head screws (and consequently their associated drivers) have become obsolete. Still, if you're working on old pre 1970 vehicles with some regularity, it might be a good idea to keep a set of clutch head drivers and/or sockets on hand.

I can't say that I've ever seen a pair with rounded jaws, or maybe I just never looked closely enough. A pair with rounded jaws definitely look like they'd be handy. I'll have to keep an eye out for a pair like that.

Hmm...do I like Channellocks? I don't know, let me check my picture...

I would like to get some Code Blues and the oil filter wrenches but they're hard to find in stores and I live near Meadville!

Have any Do-It-Best stores around? I visited one, and they are a veritable Mecca of blue: everything from a 1/4" impact driver to work lights.

Finding some at 50% off started my binge...I picked up the seven mentioned in this thread, and then proceeded to buy stuff left and right. Hearing good things about the 909 crimpers led me to a crawl through every hardware store between Savannah and Americus. I finally found those in the last of at least twenty stores I went into.

I don't know all the numbers, but I've also picked up the cable cutters, wire strippers, locknut pliers, small oil filter pliers, GLS-1 set, 460 pliers, 927 retaining ring pliers, and probably more in the past month.

According to that picture, they're 422 and available on Amazon for $14. I have prime so shipping would be free.

No. The 422's available today are V-jaw. The V-jaw being Knipex-influenced, and sadly a
step backwards.

From one of the reviews on Channellock website: "I really liked the old curved jaw design more than the v-jaw. Try gripping 3/8 all-thread rod with the new ones! - "

If anybody finds any with the curved jaw, I'm also looking....

Since you're on the forum I'm assuming you have the Internet. Just order what pliers you want online.
