426, 420, 430, 317, 338, 358, 548, 927

I enjoy a picture that shows the tools are being used vs. the plethora of collectors that usually post

Here's my most used pairs. I work in construction. The dikes ride in my tool bags everyday for pulling nails and cutting bands on lumber. The others are my universal plumbing wreckers (upw's).

And here's the rest of them safe and sound in my home tool box.

Once upon a time corporate hired a mechanic to work in the tire and alignment shop I managed. The guy moved his huge tool box into the garage and started work. He then proceeded to use one big pair of blue handled channellocks for everything. He used them to loosen, turn, and tighten tie rod sleeves. He used them for R/R calipers and brake hoses. He used the handles to punch out seals. He used them for damn near everything except removing tires. I asked him why he didn't use the other tools in his toolbox and he said using one tool was easier. He was a nice guy, and it was hard to let him go, but he just wasn't very good.

The jaws are different sizes and don't match up.

Again, I want to like this company; I want to buy USA-made tools, and I like the color.

They need to get a firm grip on their head and pull it out of their ***, though.

Jeez, just give it a rest already. WE GET IT - YOU DON'T LIKE CL. OKAY YOU MADE YOUR POINT OVER AND OVER ALREADY. You just keep on beating and beating and beating that dead horse. :deadhorse:deadhorse

Go **** on somebody else's thread for awhile. Or start another thread - you can swear about your never ending love for HF ratchets, the ones you claim are 90 per cent of Snap On without the price. :lol_hitti

For a guy that doesn't have many tools or hasn't sampled/used a lot of different tool brands, you sure know a lot.

And in the meantime, donate your grandpa's Channellocks to someone who can use them.

If they sell 1 million pairs of pliers each year, that's to be expected. You CANT get everything.

"I've never had any problems with channellock pliers. This is the first time I've ever seen it. But it won't stop me from buying them again" - That guy on reddit

A pair is 10 dollars for a regular set of slip joint pliers, 10-20 for a decent size channel lock, just buy one and try it out, amazon even lets you return things, no questions asked (At least with prime)

You know, I started this thread because I like Channellocks. A lot of others do to. That's okay if they're not your favorites. Thanks for stopping by. So anyway, looking at your recent posts, I was thinking, instead of cranking things up here and stirring the pot, why don't you start a Fat Max thread?

How's that Stanley Fat Max thread coming along?

So I got the e458.. the gimmick is the cutter edge on both halves are in the center of the head, instead of off to one side like every other diagonals on earth. Not sure what the advantage of this could be.

I like to check into the thread when I see some new posts. As much as l like seeing the collections, vintage stuff and everyday users, it also makes me start thinking "blue." I've been looking for pair of those new center cutters. I went hunting for them today but couldn't find a pair...... Still, I hate going home empty handed, so I found this E388 instead. Certainly don't need them, but they "scratched the itch."

Are the E458s any good? Like I said, I've been looking for a pair. I'd like to hold them before I buy them. I have a pair of center cut Knipex that I really like. They're heavy duty. I think more so than the typical diagonal cutters. I bought the Knipex to cut chain link fence. They cut the fence like butter. Do you like the CL version?

They just came in the mail.. in complete honesty these probably won't get used much. I haven't put them side by side yet, but they otherwise look the same as the e338. I have a lot of different diagonals and just wanted to see these first hand. Again, I don't see any real advantage with the cutter head design, other than not having to flip the pliers over to get the cutters closer to whatever you need to cut.. the description said improved metal, so I was thinking they would just be a more robust version of the e338.

Typhoon, I think the idea is just more meat behind the cutting edge. It makes them more robust; capable of cutting heavier/thicker material than the regular, equivalent dike.

Yea I'm not sure what the reasoning is. If the cutting edges aren't hard, and they chip when you ask them to cut something, then the amount of metal behind them doesn't really matter imo.. I like real world differences. if I can notice them making something easier, great. If I buy something and then need to talk myself into why this one is better than that one, usually there's no real difference. But hey, it's a new tool so I'll give em a try..

I don't have the Channellock center cutters but I do have a pair of Knipex high leverage center cutters (model 74 91 250, weight 395 grams, 10 inch) and a pair of Knipex high leverage diagonal cutters (model 74 01 250, weight 391 grams, 10 inch). See photo below. According to the published Knipex specs regarding both tools, it appears there is a real world difference in terms of what they'll cut. The center cutters will cut "medium-hard" wire up to 5mm, while the diagonals will cut the same wire up to 4.6mm. As for "hard" wire, the numbers are 3.8mm and 3.5mm respectively, and piano wire is 3.5mm and 3.0mm. Maybe not vast differences, but worth noting I guess.

I'm wondering how the Channellock center cutters would match up to a comparable weight/length/hardened Channellock diagonal cutter. I still think the design of the center cutters make them a little more capable of cutting thicker material. I'll probably pick up a pair of those Channellock center cutters at some point.

I'm a self professed channel lock junkie, I don't think you can go wrong for the price vs cost. As you can see in the pic below I love CL and that's just one drawer, I have another 5 or so pairs in other tool boxes/bags in my vehicles. Made in USA and last forever as evidenced by a couple pairs that I've had for over 25yrs. Love me some blue handles so much that I even tried a set of Cornwell comfort grip blue handles... Not even close to CL, more like kids toys. 625f8fd1f0c57e415799ee56c014c670.jpg

Jeff, I have never seen one of those tie pins before. Nice buy, I'm surprised you got it for only $10.
For things like that, you gotta be quick and lucky!

Dennis, I have not seen a screw starter before. Every day I learn something new. Today I learned that I need a screw starter. :p

Damn it, means I'll have to go buy something. Hadn't checked the CT flyer yet but saw that PA had them at 30%.
Only limited selection this weekend, last week was everything. They do have a nice set of 4 for $60 though (reg $100).

^^^^ Nice CL collection and welcome aboard.
Thanks and thanks, I didn't realize that there would be such a big CL following. I think most of us have a serious tool hoarding problem!
