Anyone else reuse a old socket box for a new socket kit?

Sure. If a tin box suits you, then you'd use it forever. It's not like somebody's going to make a new tin box.

This is a very different subject, but I bought english and metric sets of allen keys at HF and threw the wrenches away just to put my craftsman allen wrenches in that holder. They use a real nice holder. It's plastic. I know i could have made one out of a block of wood, but the whole set is only like $5.

Firebird, that’s a great idea as I have a 20+ year old set of loose metric/SAE Craftman hex keys and the little vinyl pouches they came in are not helpful. Buying a decent hex key organizer would cost more than just getting the Harbor Freight sets to use the holder. I like the sizes marked on the holder as figuring out the sizes on the tiny ones is a pain each time when grabbing them out of the pouch. So much that I’ve taken to just using the cheap HF folding hex key sets instead.

My metrics are in a PAL gift card tin. The others in a school boy's plastic pencil box, and some in an Allen index.

We use what we have, if I want to impress strangers I will soot a coat of paint on a repurposed box.
