The 36v I use when I have a lot of screws to put in (or something big to drill), since I hate impacts and the 36v will even drive lag screws home without the godawful hammering noise.

12 vs 36 volt is apples to banannas

2 vs 6 pounds

50 vs 400 dollars

Absolutely. But I see a lot of people putting 3" screws in with an impact making a ton of noise, when a 18v drill/driver would do just fine.

Impact for driving screws all the way... Never ever heard anyone prefer a drill for that before now

I was all hot for the ratchet, but I think I'm going to go with the 3/8" M12 impact. I'm sure you can get into more places with the ratchet, but I'm thinking I'd get more mileage out of the impact gun.

Does anyone have both and care to add your experiences?

I have both, and they are two different animals they are just like the air versions the M12 ratchet you break it by hand then it will ratchet it out, it does not have the power like a impact does to break stuff, now the M12 3/8 drive impact has good power and will twist a standard grade 1/4 bolt into but it is a 3/8 drive so don't expect it to rip off lug nut's, like the 1/2 M18 will. I use them both and plan to get a 1/4 drive ratchet too. but the PVC cutter is next on the list

Yes, I know. It's just annoying versus using a drill/driver, so I don't understand the point. :p

I only use an impact if I really "need" the impacts.

You'll get the point when you're trying to screw in big/long lag screws. With a powerful drill, you better brace yourself otherwise it'll snap your wrist. I can put in the same screw with an impact without much effort, hell even with one hand holding the driver.

Yep, even better is using an impact with a hole saw. Especially if you're up on a ladder. No more worrying about the hole saw grabbing.
