Anyone ever find unused NOS tools?

I recently picked up a used snap-on wrench with the old underline old script lettering on it. I have other snap-on tools but this is my second wrench and the only snap-on tool I own that has the old style lettering. Honestly I think the old style lettering for the logo and sizes is so cool I can't understand why snap-on decided to change to their current font style. I mean snap-on is a high end luxurious brand and the old logo just looks like something you would see on a rolls royce or something.

Anyway lets get to what I was meaning. I am looking at getting a set of snap-on wrenches sometime soon and I know that because im looking at buying new they will have the new style logos that my other snap-on tools have and it got me wondering how it would be cool if a set of brand new wrenches with the old logos suddenly were being sold by snap-on.

Thats what made me start this thread how many of you out there have come across new old stock tools. Perhaps ones that were just never sold or were sold but never used.

It's not uncommon. I have some Proto sockets sets in my for sale stuff right now that look like they've never been used. I find a lot of Craftsman socket sets that way also. Like they were bought as a gift and never used.

Yes, I have two toolboxes full of new, never used sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. that I bought new and never used. I have a few favorites that I use on everything but most sets come with pieces I'l never use.:dunno:

I found a Craftsman set at my hardware store that had been there since the 90's. It was a combination set with 3/8 ratchet, some SAE sockets, screwdrivers, and pliers still in the box and sealed in plastic. Pretty nice and the guy gave me a heck of a deal on it.

I was in the basement of a hardware store and found a bunch of NOS Xcelite screwdrivers. Did they ever smell when I opened them.

I found three pair of vise grips yesterday.

Two were NOS from the 60's and the other was a US made Irwin

They are out there, but I guess you have to trip over them

Probably not what you fellas were hoping for, but I found a bunch of Gray wrenches (Whitworth) in the original factory boxes...one box perished when moved but the other was fine....

The box above is still sealed and full.

Back about 40 years ago I went to the local Goodwill store and found a half dozen Plomb WF open end combo wrenches. I don't remember the sizes, but I think they were in 32nds. They all had a cadium finish. Long gone now.

I'm still occasionally finding NOS Plomb 5/8" WF sockets at a local general store which bought WWII surplus sixty years ago.

Last summer I got a handful of NOS Plomb 9/32" extensions in a box of stuff I found on Craigslist; after 60+ years some still had traces of cosmoline on them.

I traded several of them on this board to other Plomb collectors like me.

I got a heap of Proto NOS a while back. Wrenches, sockets, flex sockets etc. I think they were from the 1980s. All brand new.

I found a Blackhawk box end set under the bottom drawer of a file cabinet that I bought at a surplus sale from a mine I used to work at. According to the warehouse picking ticket that was in the roll with them, someone in the concentrator electric shop ordered them in July of 1956. I gave them to my Granddad for Christmas one year as a reminder of his days in the electric shop.

Somewhere around here I've got a little box full of 6" Brown and Sharpe rulers that I picked up in the attic of an old house that we were renting.

I've found a brand new set of the Woodgrain hard handles in the red tray before. I love them, it's my favorite set I have

I found a NOS pair of K-D snap ring pliers at a garage sale. The pouch was filthy but the pliers were pristine and all the interchangeable tips are unused.

Not bad for a buck.

Sent via carrier pigeon.

There is a sale going on here now with supposedly a lot of NOS. I roped myself to the mast and stopped my ears with wax, so I'll never know what and how much.

A few monthos back I bought a NOS pair of Crescent USA G-26 slip joint pliers for ~$1.50 IIRC, it was <$2. Don't think I have used them yet. They are very nice.

Some guys on here seem to find quite a bit of NOS stuff if you page through the garage sale thread. :dunno:

I've found some, all of the Snap-On stuff in my for sale thread was all NOS. I've found a lot more very lightly used stuff though.

I keep some and sell some. But I do find NOS tools occasionally. Below are some pre-WWII Ridgid pipe wrenches. They were black back then. They came from a client of mine. He bought them himself.

I bought a set of 75th anniversary Vise Grips from 1999 earlier this year from a local hardware store. I also bought a Gray "Maple Leaf" 1/2" socket set from the 1980's? fairly recently off of Kijiji. Over the years I've bought several wrenches and sockets off Kijiiji, flea markets etc, that appear to have no use, however I guess technically those aren't NOS.

I'm a road warrior with my job, and when traveling thru small out the way towns I make a point to stop and check out the mom and pop hardware type stores. I have found all types of gems in places like that.

And many times the stuff is still priced at 1970's prices or before. Sometimes the store owners will offer me a discount and I don't even ask or expect one.

There's a mom and pop hardware store about half a mile away that has some NOS tools in their inventory. Some of them actually say Made in Japan. :) They have some NOS hardware too -- like Stanley mending plates, latches, etc.. I choose the NOS stuff first. It probably has better metal in it.

I found NOS USA made vise grips at a local industrial supply store. They had just about every variety well until I bought them.

Same here. Hell you can find good stuff at some of the big box stores in these smaller towns.

I've got 4 Craftsman stack toolbox bottoms and 3 tops from the early 80s that I bought unused. As well, they came with a late 70s stack of boxes top, bottom, and middle that was barely used and was pretty much in new condition, as well. They sat in storage their whole lives and never had been unlocked or had the wheels installed.

I've got a NOS Snap on 3/8" drive set from the 1960s in the original steel case. It came from an estate sale and i paid 5.00 for it

Nothing has been touched in the set, not even a hint of grease in the sockets or fingerprints on the box. Its nice!!

I buy nos snap-on sockets all the time. Usually 1960-1970's impact sockets. Come from auctions usually military stuff. Was bought for a base that never used em. Commonly odd drive sizes too.

I collect old hand planes. Every now and then I'll find one that's seen little or no use. This Stanley model #6C has clearly NEVER touched a piece of wood even one time. It's still in its original box with original packing materials, the original owner's manual, and the Stanley logo tag tied to the handle. The cutting iron still has the factory grind. It was manufactured between 1933 and 1941.
