Anyone ever removed thick impact coating?

A friend of mine may be purchasing an older factory building.

I went with him to look at the property and on the inside it's obvious where the machines were set up.

The concrete floor is coated with a thick non skid type surface except where the machines were sitting (friend called it impact coating). Rough guess is 20 machines were in there at one time.

The edges where the machines were sitting are lifting/curling and the coating is approx. 1/4" to 3/8" thick. No other areas of the floor seem to be lifting.

This could be a tripping hazard for someone not paying attention while walking thru the building.

So without the benefit of pictures does anyone have suggestions as to what type of machine could be used to strip off the coating?

I would think some sort of vibrating scraper but I haven't checked with the rental places to see what is available.

If this"impact coating" is well bonded you may be in for a real struggle.

Might be easier to take up the curling areas and patch it with an epoxy patch material.

I am speaking from experience.

There are machines designed for removal of this coating but are expensive to rent. High pressure water can be used but that is expensive as well.
Legacy has a good idea.

Yea, the patching thought was bantered about after looking at the building.

I'm thinking he would like to have bare concrete for ease of rolling steel wheeled cart and such. The existing coating is a rather rough, non-skid type surface. Not sure what it is for sure but there's a lot of it.

Not really sure when the coating was put down. The building was supposedly built in the 1950's but who knows when the coating was put down.
