Anyone expirience this M12 Fuel issue?

This is with my m12 1/4 impact brushless gun. This happens very rare and as far as i can remember has been almost a year.

I would go to squeez the trigger and nothing happens. Just today i noticed battery gauge lights flash at this time, which i think indicated overheating of battery pack. But then if i resqueeze the trigger it resumes operation and does not happen for another 1-4 weeks!

All this happens when battery is fully charged(or not but point is that its not drained). Sometimes it would be happening after having the impact sit in tool box for days. Other times it would be in the middle of a job.

Its so intermittent that i have doubts that milwaukee would warranty the concerns. You know, get the old " can not duplicate".

PS: impact is not even a year old...

I think I had the same thing happen with my M12 Fuel hammerdrill. except it kept happening until I waited 15 min or so. Then it has been fine since.

Is this the impact driver or the impact wrench? I would probably look into the bottom of the tool with a flash light and check out the contacts. I believe M12 batteries have two larger side by side contacts for BAT+ and BAT-, and one small contact off in a corner for the battery temperature sensor. Maybe those contacts are corroded some and not getting a good connection. I don't know what the failure behaviour would be if the tool can't see the temperature sensor but it could be to blink a trouble code and not function. When I get home tonight I'll mess with mine a little bit and see if I can figure anything else out to help.

I've had this happen with M18 driver/drill.

I have several batteries, and can't say it's battery related.

I've had the same thing happen on my M18 Fuel hammer drill (2nd gen). Pull the trigger and nothing happens, sometimes I have to remove the battery and re-seat it to get the drill to work again. Had the issue with all my batteries. Never had the issue on my non-fuel drill and impact.

Here is a question I have for those with this issue: how far are you pulling the trigger back and are you alread engaged with a fastener when this happens?

Reason I ask is if you barely pull the trigger while having a load on the tool it can trip the saftey shut off since you are saying the battery guage is flashing when this issue happens.

When using the m12 ratchet and the fastener no longer moves but torque is still attempting to be applied per amount of trigger pull, the auto shut off kicks in to protect the tool/battery/circuit board from over loading.

had the same issue with my m18 back in 2014. They warrantied it out, new one had the same issue. I believe it's a firmware issue on the little chip.

I put this together last night when I got home from work and got to investigate a bit more. Hopefully that is your problem because it's a fairly easy fix.

Dangit... I wish I would have thought to do the same test with an M18 tool and battery. Maybe I'll make a followup vidiero.

Mine does the same thing too.

In addition to that, sometimes it also does a deal where it makes a small whine noise exactly like the trigger is slightly depressed, but not enough to activate the motor into action. Disappointing because the tool had lived a pampered life and has only had about three batteries run through it. Never dropped, never overworked.

And no, the light i am experiencing is a a solid "full strip of 4 leds on off at same time" Not left to right like the video shows.

I was watching a guy on you tube that tore one apart, the power supply has a circuit in it to protect the battery and motor I believe from overheating, been awhile ago I watched it, wonder if this has somyhing to do with it? Cools off, all is back to normal and working?

Hmm... Ok I think that's when the tool thinks something physical is wrong like it can't turn the anvil or something is stuck. My M12 FUEL circular saw does that when it detects a kickback when the wood clamps down on the blade. I'll mess with mine more tonight and see if I can recreate it. It's strange on an impact though because even if you put it on a fastener it can't move it will just hammer away and not spin as part of the design.

Guys it is the safety feature kicking in when the trigger is pulled but you dont pull back enough this the motor doesnt turn over making the tool think its being overloaded....

This makes perfect sense but no matter how hard i try i cant duplicate the issue~~!

Not on mine it isn't.

I can plug a battery into it and not touch anything and it will start to make a whining noise and the headlight will come on. I can **** with the trigger a few times and make it quit. Then when I set it down all is well and sometimes a few minutes later it starts doing it again, all by itself when I'm no where near it.

Wonder if you have a defective trigger?

I have seen the forward/reverse switch cause this behavior. Next time it happens push the forward/reverse switch in a little more or jiggle it a little and see if that helps.

If it's under warranty I'd send it off. I just saw a similar issue on another forum and they fixed it and had it back to him in like a week. Generally, if you have an issue it will get worse over time...no sense waiting until it's going to cost you money to fix. I think he said they just replaced everything inside including the motor, so they might not even troubleshoot it.

I realize the thread is old but for me it's been a battery seat(ing) issue. If I pull the battery and pop it back in pretty hard w the palm of my hand it usually clears the problem.
