My neighbor called and said he had some Urrea brand tools that he wanted to sell. I am not familiar with them at all and wondered where they were made and what the quality was. I have not seen them but he said he had several large combination wrenches and a couple adjustable wrenches. I don't want to buy any junk.

A friend of mine just pointed out this site to me and I am an impressed newbie. :shocking:

Thanks for your help.

They were once a part of proto and then split off, but most of their stuff still looks like the older proto stuff. I would buy it if you like proto.

I think they are Mexican and supposed to be real good, I heard there was some affiliation with them and some other big US tool company (maybe Proto, Stanley, Blackhawk or Mac). I'm sure someone here will know.

Some of their products do look good... Some locking pliers are definately from grip-on , the red handled 1000 Volt pliers look like they`re from germany , the Linemans pliers look like USA , retaining ring pliers i saw with made in USA on them , screwdrivers made in cooperation with Witte, hose pinch off pliers from imperial/stride etc.....

They are pretty much identical to pre Stanley Proto. Even the part #'s are the same as old Proto. The ratchet guts between the pre Stanley Proto and Urrea interchange.

Urrea was set up in Mexico to produce Proto for that market. For some reason I don't recall the two companies split the alliance but kept making the tools.

Holy ****!! $307 for a 24" adjustable (#724) They must be pretty proud of them. Made in Mexico, I would have thought maybe 300 Pesos!! Monte thanks for the link. How many Euros would that be?? :)

Looks like they should be worth a look. Don't know what he wants for them.

I purchased a couple of Snap On torx plus bits and I thought they would be 1/2 diameter but were larger I purchased some Urrea allen bit and holders as they still use a set screw.
They were fine for this use. I converted some 55 size to 1/2 drive.

New member here, good forum.

I'm have owned/used just about every brand imaginable of combination wrench and the first one I grab every time these days is a Urrea. Most of mine are the black industrial finish and they are excellent quality wrenches. Kind of nice how on an SAE wrench one side is stamped with the fractional size and the other is stamped in the metric equivalent.
