I got up around 5:30, got over to Sears around six, Home Depot about 6:30, and Lowes around 7. Spent about $150. The only day of the year I go out of my way to shop. :shocking:

I woke up at 8:30, and haven't finished my breakfast yet. I may shop a bit online, but no plans to buy anything special today.

There were some good deals...not necessarily as good as prior years. This is the fourth year in a row I've got up early on "Black Friday" I never heard that term until a few years ago.

Anyway, I picked up some Craftsman and no-name screwdrivers from Sears. The no-name is "Work Tough"...76 pc screwdriver set for $10. Got a 3/8" socket set with ratchet and about about ten sockets in a molded case...one standard, one metric, for $10. At Home Depot bought a 18 volt Ryobi combo kit with drill, circular saw, flashlight and vacuum for $59, then got a Ryobi Jigsaw for free with purchase. Bought six flashlights in a package for $10. At Lowes, bought a 20 piece 1/4" drive (Kobalt) for $10, regular price $25. Was thinking of getting the 4' werner stepladder for $34 (half price) but decided I didn't need it. I got one last year for $20...($29 + $10 off coupon). (I have two stand alone garages, and sometimes it's easier to have specific stuff for each so I don't have to go back and forth between them)

Then stopped at Staples and bought a printer/fax/scanner for $30 ($60 rebate). Just registered for the rebate online. Apparently they don't send you a check...but a prepaid Visa. Never heard of that before, but oh well.

Got back around 8:30, and slept from nine to eleven! It's nice weather here...in the 50s and warm. I'm going to mow the lawn this afternoon!

somewhere...
Thought about getting that Ryobi One+ set, but I think the drill included is pretty basic and I have no use for the vacuum or the circ. saw. There is the $159 set with the nicer drill and the Sawzall (also 2 batts instead of 1) which is what I might still go and pick up... Plus a impactor.... I don't know.

I went to Menards right as they opened and got two of the 6hp 16 gallon shop vacs for $39 each as well as 2 of the little B&D VPX electric screwdrivers for $10 each--should make good gifts for my brother and sister.

Also stopped by Staples to get 2 new laptops (not on sale, but a good price and nice ultralight laptop, only 2.2 lbs) and JCPenny to get 2 new suits and 3 blazers for school... Already have a couple nicer suits but have to get some cheap ones at 60% off that I'm comfortable with getting abused (vomit, bodily fluids, etc ).:wtf::wtf::wtf:

I spent a bunch of time carefully going through the ads yesterday and really didn;t find anything that jumped out at me as a "can't live without" deal.
Yes, Sears had some decent deals on tool chests, but I really don't have the space for one until I get my shop finished up.
Right now the wife is possibly facing being laid off the 1st of the year so we're watching our pennies a bit.

Not me... slept as long as I could, but my sinuses were killing me... have been for a week. Finally had the good sense to go to the Dr.

I am not leaving to go shopping. Not today. Tomorrow... maybe. Besides, I already got my wife (the most important person for gift giving) her gift. I gave it to her early and she loved it (a Nintendo Wii with the Wii Fit kit). So i figure that I am good to go as far as slacking off on shopping in concerned.

I got 6pc Gearwrenches for $9.99 ($10 mail-in rebate) at ACE Hardware. I had the metric set already but at that price I picked both Metric and SAE.

Unlike most of you guys here and my wife I never find good deals and usually end up paying retail on most of the stuff (because I have little patience and I gotta have it now) so today was a good day

Went to Sears this morning. I thought they had some great deals. 3 piece pry bar set for 19.99 was hard to pass up, but I did.

I wound up buying:

2 pairs of craftsman mechanics gloves for 9.99 each
craftsman LED rechargeable drop light 16.99
set of craftsman standard hex bit sockets 14.99
set of 3 craftsman professional "vice grip" pliers 19.99

all of them are gifts except for the droplight which was a gift to myself :lol_hitti

I would rather browse eBay and the store sites from the comfort of my couch, fighting a bunch of people hopped up on coffee and energy drinks early in the morning does not sound appealing.

I did:

Sears: I picked up a the 3 piece pry bar set for 19.99, a belt drive opener for the house garage, and (2) Gladiator 24" cabinets. The cabinets were the best deal to be had IMO. They were 75 bucks (half price). These are all gifts...to myself!

Office Depot: Got my mom a nice HP laptop for 350.

At that point I decided i'd had enough. Although the stores did not seem as crazy as years past.

I didn't get up early. Got to Sears about 1 pm (didn't realize the deals I saw in the circular were only til noon.) The lady behind the register gave them to me anyway.

I picked up two 3/8" torque wrenches (the low and high range) for $40 each and a 10 pc Craftsman air tool set for $50. Had my hands on some Gearwrenches but figured I had to leave something for my Christmas list!:)

Went to Tool Liquidators, used to be Cummins Tool, they had all sorts of BAHCO sets, relatively cheap, but I have most of them already, and the new sets are all oddballs, mismatched sets, weird sizes and whatnot. They did have a cool set of Proto Professional long pattern combination wrenches in fractional sizes, and a set of Proto wrenches of some sort, in a sealed Proto cardboard box, judging from the size of the box they must be shorter open end wrenches..I was tempted but just dind't pull the trigger on any of it.

I went to Sears at 5:00, Target around 6:15, then Lowes, and finally Best Buy. I bought the metric impacts from Sears and the 3/8 extensions. Nothing exciting but I need them. Target was a madhouse at just 15 minutes after opening, so I ran back out of there. Best Buy netted a couple of Seinfeld seasons, and Lowes resulted in a new Bosch washer for the parents(that was on his dime, not mine). I used to think BF shopping was ridiculous, but in the past couple of years I've found it to be fun. My dad and I look forward to it now as something fun to do together and we usually get some deals and some Xmas shopping done.

Also, I didn't find it to be dangerous, but I wasn't there right at open either. Briefly, I thought I was going to get mugged for my Starbucks in Best Buy though. Apparently that is a way to pick up chicks, walk around with aromatic coffee. It was a definite attractant.

I was not planning to but I did. I go to get on the computer this morning and the moniter won't work. I take off the cover and realize I know nothing about them. So I go to walmart to get a new one. While I am there I see the 201 piece stanely tool kit on sale for $50 so I get it. I was going o buy the $15 shop vac but it kept ringing up for $39 and they are sold out of the $15 ones so I passed.

I had never done any BF shopping before, but this list compelled me to go...

...what a huge waste of time. I needed some bang-um-up screwdrivers. Stood in line at Sears for 45 minutes to save $9. Problem is, my time is worth more than $12/hr. So I won't be doing that again!

Had to go to Ace for some chemicals and saw the GW special. Passed it up, it was the small set. If I'm buying any GW, I want a bigger set of it, not to be looking to add oneseys and twoseys after the purchase.

All said, not very impressed with what BF had to offer.

Got to Sears at 11:30 this morning. They still had lots of inventory remaining for a majority of the sale items.

I bought the $99 204-pc Crapsman Tool Set and the $15 Crapsman Professional Handbox. They had quite a few tool sets left, but I bought the last handbox.

The quality of both products was pretty sorry, but that was expected considering the HF-like price.

I picked up the sae & met T-Handle nut drivers at Sears, along with one of those c-man bottle openers.

At Home Depot I grabbed the $59 Roybi 18v kit (already have the drill and flashlight from few years back) and picked the sawsall as the free add on, and I got an extra 2 pack of batteries so I now have one for all the tools. I also got the $20 grinder for my large roll around work station (good enough for cleaning bolts) And I also grabbed the Roybi 10" miter saw for $59 not that I do much wood work but for that price why not, and a wire wheel for the bench grinder.

So now my collection of Ryobi 18v tools is getting larger with 2 drills, small skill saw, sawsall, impact driver, angle drill, grinder, 2 flashlights, vac, fan.

It was a pretty good tool shopping day :bounce:

It's the best day to get ridiculous deals. I had no wait times at all this morning...but I didn't go to a Best Buy and didn't get to Target until around 8:00. Electronics stores, Target, and Walmart seem to be the worse in terms of crowds.

Some dumb woman they had on the news got in line at a local Best Buy at 4 am THURSDAY morning! She said the next person didn't get in line behind her for 14 HOURS! What a genius :lol_hitti

I picked up Season 3 of The Office. Decided not to start collecting the Seinfeld seasons..love the show, but it seems to be on all the time so I don't know if I'd ever watch the dvds.

I have the first six seasons of King of the Hill

Around here 3 p.m. Wednesday was when they started camping out at Best Buy. :shocking:

I got to the stores about 7am and the only thing I missed out on that I was intrested in was the cabinet at Lowes for $39. The Sears' employee let me buy some of the shelves that were on sale even thought they were out of stock.

I went to Costco this morning to get a digital picture frame and memory card for the in laws. 20 minutes driving each way plus 10 minutes waiting to checkout for a grand total of 5 minutes of actual shopping. Between the sale prices and coupons, I saved about $75 for my time so it was worth it.

At least my wife was happy that I was able to get another thing off of her list and I came home with a free cookbook for her that Costco was handing out to every customer through the door.

I also went to Cabela's to get tent stakes for putting up outdoor Christmas decor. The store was busier two weeks ago when we were picking up a couple of things.

Generally speaking, all of the parking lots by me were less crowded than usual. Even though there were fewer people, the people that were spending were spending big. I was about the only person at Costco not buying an LCD TV this morning. The guy behind me in line made up for me though by buying five.

We are on a strict cash only holiday budget (like every year) so it puts a stop to the impulse purchases that I would have made at Home Depot or Lowes so I didn't even bother going there.

All indications are that black friday was a huge bust for retailers. More sales will be coming.

The only thing I picked up at Sears was metric and SAE sets of Craftsman 1/4" drive deep sockets. The two sets sold together for $29.99. Not bad considering the sets separately are $24 each normally.

I'm waiting for a hell of a deal on a good 16 gal. Craftsman shop vac. So if anyone comes across them, please let me know. Missed the last sale where it was 40% off. I have the Rigid version and it's been a really good vac for extreme amounts of metal borings that we've had to vac. up.
