Looking to put up one about this size...anyone have one this size or close to it? I'd love to see pictures of the inside and out just to get an idea of how big it actually is. Thanks.

Mines 24.5' x 34.5' Don't know how they came bout building that size but I like it. After using for a 8 years there are a few things I'd do differently. Go just a little wider, hard to get 2 cars side by side and open the doors if you have stuff against the walls. I have a STRONG south wind, which is where my 16x7 door is. I'd rather have 2 9x7's instead. Obviously taller LOL It was here when I bought the place so I can't complain to much! Nice thing is I can pull my ext cab fullsize Chevy in, drop the tailgate down and walk all the way around it comfortably (Probably close to 3' front and back) and still have my bench on the far end. 28' wide would be awesome. You run out of floor space quicker than you think!

What you see here is 24x36, I am in the process of adding 6x24 onto the back side for storing large woodworking tools, air compressor, and dust collector. It is a good size (all the city would allow at the time) , easy to park 2 cars side by side, My hoist will be set up about 12 foot off the back wall. I should be able to put a car on the hoist and still park two cars in the garage if the weather is bad.

I'm in the process of building a 24 X 30. I'm hoping to start a build thread in the gallery section soon. Building it with a little help from my son, wife, brother, and family members from time to time.

8 X 12 pitch, 9 ft walls, scissor trusses for half the length with 13' 6" height at center. The rest is floored loft. 8' X 16' garage door.

So far, it's been nice to house my hobbies in there. Of course, garages/shops never big enough. I got design and build ideas from GJ members here. Thanks everyone!

I've got a 24x40 metal pole building that was on the property when I bought the place. W/O going into a lot of details, it has one double door and a single. I've got three large cars in there; '58 Chevy wagon, '63 Ford Galaxie and a '41 Pontiac fastback. Those, along with all the stuff, tools, three workbenches and four floor to ceiling shelving units, I can hardly walk around.

I have to move the Chevy and Ford out to get in to change oil in the DD's. I'll have to rearrange it when I start to work on the Pontiac again. I wish it was deeper, that would help alot.

I have a 28 x 36 with one side having a 4' deep closet making it 24'. I used to have a wall in between and removed it last year to make some more room to move things around.

here is a link with some pics http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175058&highlight=black+ceiling

Here are a few more pics http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18704&highlight=black+ceiling

This is when I tore the wall out between the garage bays. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56999&highlight=garage

Just for an FYI...if you are building your garage 36' wide, do not go less than 28' deep. A 24' deep garage, if you want a bench up front, does not leave enough room. 28' will let you have a bench up front and still let you have room to work all around a vehicle. I built what I could afford at the time, but over the years see some of the screwups I made. You can buy garage kits at a relatively decent price. I had a full foundation put in, but if I had found this site first before building my garage, I would have went 4' taller on the block walls and built a standard 8' tall garage on top so i would have had room to put a lift. But when I built my garage, I could crawl around or climb like a monkey and never planned for the future, who does. Now if I get down on the floor, I can't hardly get back up, and my days of working on a creeper are about over with.

So plan ahead. Build it tall enough for a possible lift later on, and build it deep enough that you have adequate room to work.

This size looks really good for a one man 1 car at a time shop.

I dont use my work space for storage AT ALL and that helps a lot. The only thing i have in my shop right now is my tools, toolbox, welders, press, and a bench. Thats all ive ever needed. Compressor is in the basement of the house and i run a 220v cord out there for welding.

The main problem people have is they end up storing everything they own in their shop and that just does not work if you want to be productive. Just not going to happen. If you are looking for a shop to work on cars and thats it i believe that is almost the perfect size if you are on a budget. Especially because if you live up north a single woodstove can heat it to the point that you will be working in a t shirt when its 10 degrees outside.

If your trying to build a storage building for 4 cars like some of these guys do go ahead, but if you want somewhere to work store what you are not using in your basement. excess tools, spare parts, household items, etc. Car covers are made for a reason, use one if you have a spare car you want out of the elements.

I have a 28w x 34' deep. If I had to do it over, I would have gone 36' deep

This was from 2009. The garage is currently completed (well, are they ever really completed?)
Garage Photos 032.jpg

I went with the 2 8' x 9' doors only because I don't like the looks of those big doors.

I included this one to show the space inside the garage.I can actually fit two cars deep on the side where the Chevelle is. I have a work bench on the other side (behind me as I'm taking the picture)

Tell us what you plan to have in the building and its purpose. Machine shop, woodworking, parking garage, or a car repair shop? 36' wide or deep?

It is going to be 24" wide by 36" deep. Going to try and fit 2 full size trucks in there and all of mine and 2 buddies stuff since were moving into a house together. I'm used to a monster 30x80 barn right now but since this is my parents rental house were moving Into this is all they really want to put up.

I'll tell you that i have a 26 (deep) x 36 (wide), and some longer vehicles ('70s Chrysler, '90s Suburban, etc.). With just a little bit of "stuff" along the back wall (compressor, old kitchen cabinets as a bench), I have NO room at the front of the truck by the time I pull in and leave room to walk behind it. I was capped at the size I built. Post build, there are some things I'd do different if I could based on experience or money, but the one thing I REALLY wish I could have done different is to have built deeper...30' anyway. But, as I said, that wasn't a legally viable option. So I took what I could get and will work around the problems that creates. I would NOT have wanted to go NARROWER to allow for DEEPER. So I'm happy with the compromise I made within what the law allowed.

I have a 24 x 36 3-car garage. You won't see a picture of it because it looks like a bomb exploded in there, but if I had it to do over again I'd make it AT LEAST 2' deeper so I could put a workbench in front of the vehicles and still have room to move around. Actually I'd probably make it 30 x36 so i could get the toolbox drawers open in the front while I still have room to move around at the back.

I have a 24' (W) X 32' (D) that I use mostly for storage. I can fit 2 Fox body Mustangs nose to tail on one side and a short bed regular cab Chevy K1500 with a Boss plow (attached) and a John Deere 240 skid steer with a construction bucket nose to tail on the other side. Width is ok with storage along both walls. 36' depth sure would be nice, though.

mine is 36wx28d works out to 2-12' stalls with storage along back wall and a work area on the end... works well but im running into space issues. I need room for large tools/equipment and storage has got to go... build as big as you can.. I need an addition or an additional building...

My 24x36 is arranged so that the doors are on the 24' sides. I have a 12' door that opens to the back yard and a 16' door that is used to drive into. My boat lives in there during bad weather but I don't use the garage for parking. I put the doors on both ends so I would have the option to drive through with my boat in tow and drop it off while I pull around with the truck...but being able to open both doors when the weather is nice has been really nice. You do lose some wall space that way but it's not bad since I don't need it to park in.

I went 25' x 36' on the inside to meet HOA rules, I had to be at 900 sq ft or less for no town meeting variance, and I only have 5/8 of an acre with a 1600 sq ft house.

I made this 900 sq ft size work to fit all my toys and still have room to work.

2 cars, 1 truck, 1 boat, 1 motorcycle, 50" riding mower, snowblower and couple cabinets, shelves and 2.5' x 7' rolling workbench.

Still finishing, so a little organization is needed at the moment, but got a transmission rebuild in progress in there.

Anyone that ever ask, I always tell them to go at least 28' deep just for that reason. I have one side of my garage that is 24' deep with a bench, and if I pull my Dodge Ram in ('02 4dr.) there is no room to walk around it. If I have it on the 28' side, I have all sorts of room

BTW.....if you talk about pictures and a garage in the sdame sentence, it now requires that you post 'em up!!!!
