I've did a few years back when I was working in the defence industry.

Use powder coating on anything you would normally paint and it's fine. In fact it's better than paint!

Doesn't work well where there are moving parts though, so my advice would be don't! Go for a phosphate finish instead!

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend a starter kit from Eastwood. They seem to do well and will let you get your feet wet without costing a fortune.

I would go with the powder by the pound spectracote system I have been powder coating for years tried the HF gun the eastwood gun. Neither of those held up now looking to buy the powder by the pound system seems to be the best bang for the buck.

We bought the previous version of the Spectracoat ES01-C. Chose it over the Redline because it seemed like replacement parts were more easily available. Works good and haven't had any issues.

Red Lines are not bad. I like the ability to remove the power cord for easy cleaning without the dangling cord.

I started with the basic Eastwood gun about 7 years ago had great results with that gun with a few mods and learning tricks along the way. The gun met its death in an accidental drop. Upgraded to the Redline EZ50 at the time it was one of the best bang for the buck guns that was about 5 years ago the only problem i have had with it is the power supply that plugs into the wall dieing. One call to the place i bought it from and i had a free replacement in 3 days. That gun has see a lot of use at least 3-5 jobs a week for the last 5 years. Anything from simple parts to multi color wheels and motorcycle frames. If i decide to upgrade again or have to it will be for the redline EZ100.
