I was just wondering if any one has dealt with the certainteed shingle claim.

My shingles were installed in 03', it looks like I may have got lucky, and still qualify for replacement

Don't ask.
Shingle companies are experts at denying claims. Obviously your problem was caused by improper ventilation, installation, hail etc.
I worked non a roof of an open pavilion (no walls, no ceiling) for the city park. We installed ridge vent down the entire length.
About 5 years later we had to redo it. The shingle warranty was denied due to inadequate ventilation. We asked them for specific instruction on ventilation and they determined that ridge vent was required. They then grudgingly decided to pro-rate the warranty.

Not Certainteed but Owens-Corning. I saved a bundle wrapper with the warranty info. After we developed an issue, I contacted the install company and they had someone come out, inspect, verify that we had a claim, pulled a couple of shingles for us and advised us on how to file with the mfg. Owens paid and it was not much of a hassle at all, really. IIRC they did require verification that the shingles were installed by a licensed contractor.

My certainteed shingles were installed in 1996 and failed completely by 2008. They were "guaranteed" for 25 years and were included in a class action lawsuit. In the end I had to do stupid human tricks, stand on my head, and produce all kinds of information for them and all they coughed up was a few $100 for a roof that has 45 square of shingles on it

So I listen to the spiel and get sucked into re-roofing with GAF lifetime warranteed shingles. Three years later I'm looking to add a garage addition and I find that GAF has discontinued the shingle (for marketing reasons) and I'm SOL. I ran all they way up the chain to try to locate enough for the project and GAF really didn't give a ****. When I asked what they would do if the product failed during warranty they said they would give me an adjusted amount for the area damages :shocking: WTF good is a lifetime warranty if you end up having to re-roof the entire thing when part of it gets damaged or fails.

Around this same time a construction buddy clued me in that essentially there is a dance that goes on between the shingle manufactures and the insurance companies. The shingle manufactures are hoping they can get out of their warranty by blaming it on things like weather or installation as the previous poster said. The insurance companies want to get out of paying for new roofs by blaming the shingle manufactures. In the end, consumers are left in the middle paying huge amount for warranties and insurance and than trying to wrestle a settlement from which ever side backs down first. WHAT A SCAM!!

Thanks, thats the answer I was looking for. My shingles were installed in 03, so part of the claim. About 1/4 of the roof that gets full sun has failed. I don't want to jump hoops to file a claim, I may as well save the trouble and just pay....Again

I got $67.50 from CertainTeed last year for a roof that was installed in 1990. Not much money, as the shingles were curling at least 10 years ago but I was too dumb to make a claim at the time.

The process was painless, and I got my check in about 4 weeks.

Used it to buy a couple bundles of shingles from a competitor.
