HI all,

I'm looking for a 10,000 lb two post lift that can be used for lifting smaller sport sedans (think 98 M3) up to a 3/4 ton pickup. But I need a lift I can run off a 20amp circuit. I was looking at a BendPac XPR-10AS but they require a 25 amp breaker. The Challenger CL10 we have at work is rated for 18 amps, but the CL10 is to expensive for a home shop.

So that brings me to the Challenger E10 or SA10. There is no info on there web site stating the current requirments. Does anyone have one of these lifts and can tell me what the max current rating is on the motor? Thanks.

MJockey - I have an E10 that is ~2yrs old.

The motor is a US Motor, made in Mexico, specs: 3450rpm, 208-230V, 15-18 Amps. The hydraulic unit is an SPX unit made in the US.

I really like the E10 and think it is very underrated/under-appreciated on this forum. The steel structure of the lift is made overseas (China) but all of the components seem to be sourced from North America and from known manufacturers that should have good service support.

I have lifted everything from an E21 to an F30 (BMW folks will get this) and several 1/2T GM trucks - no complaints. It would be nice if it lifted about 4" higher but that is a nit-picky comment considering I had been using jack-stands for years.

I have a CL9 and the electrical specs call for 25A 240V circuit. The issue is the start up load for a motor. Circuit needs to be 125% of the amp requirement of the motor.

Thanks for the info. Are you using a 20 amp or 25 amp breaker?

MJockey - I have mine on a 30A breaker and appropriate wire. The reason for this is simply that I pre-wired the garage for the lift when it was built (did not buy the lift until a year later). Since I did not know what I would end up with, I based the breaker size on the wide range of amp draw ratings I found on the spec sheets of various mfg.

I can grab an amp clamp at work and measure actual draw. It would be only representative of the load currently on the lift of course (~2400 lbs = E21) but should allow for a decent idea of the actual in-rush.

However, I will not be able to get the meter until after the 1st of the year due to vacation, however if you are in need of something quicker I might be able to stop by sometime next week and grab it - just let me know.
