I have a 16 x 7 ft garage door. I would like to install a garage door screen in the opening to let fresh air in and keep bugs out in nice weather. I saw a nice one online but about choked on the $1000+ price tag. I think the brand name was lifestyler.

I have seen the cheap ones that sell for less than $100 but would like something more substantial. Any recommendations on a brand that is good quality but better price? Maybe in the $400 - $500 price range?

My last house was in the middle of mosquito mecca. I bought the cheap one. It just held in place with velcro and was quite pleased with how well it worked and held up. I just rolled it up and tied it up high when not in use.

I think I would buy a cheap one and try out the idea before I spent that kind of money on a good one. HF sells a 16x7 for $25.

I bought one for a 12’x12’ door a few years ago from garagedoorscreens.com. It fit perfectly, still works and cost a couple hundred bucks.

One of my friends who is a retired Ford line mechanic, and who has worked on Harleys on the side, and who continues to do so, uses those clear-plastic vertical strips across his double-wide garage door opening. It's the type you see in warehouses. Since it's Florida, you need AC in the summer, the strips do an OK job of keeping the AC in the garage.

We have that on the 8ft opening of our warehouse packing area at the orchard they want to keep the product as cool as possible during the processing stage, grading/boxing etc.

They do work good for keeping old air in. and are very durable but extremely expensive in most commercial supply catalogs. I remember when I purchased ours and installed it at leasyt 6 years ago. We run dual air conditioners in the room continiously and the cooler doors are often open. Ha you have to wear a sweatshirt and hat in summer in there :D

OP I vote for the inexpensive one. I also put one on the double barn door opening of the donut shop down at work. It gets so hot in there in warm weather. And air con doesn't work because the hood vents just **** out all the air anyhow. I think the girl got it at Walmart but I dunno .

NUTTSGT thanks for tip I didn't know HF had them. I will get one for house garage I have 9ft wide door into the basement

I have one on my barn maintenance bay overhead door. I bought it from Garage Door Screens.. https://www.garagedoorscreens.com/

Good company, they support our veterans and "Screens are sewn by citizens of United States with over 35 years experience"

It was $158.00 for my 8' x 10' door and included the velcro and grommets.

I velcro it to the bottom of the door and use bungee cords to attach it at the bottom to the door tracks.

I like it because it keeps the direct sun light out in the mornings and it keeps the looky lou's from seeing what I am doing in the shop.

I have one on my attached `6' door. VERY helpful when working at night to avoid all the bugs. Mine velco'd (is that a word?) in place and has a zipper on each end. With a piece of PVC inside at the bottom, you just roll it up when not needed.

Can you advise the brand installed?

Mine is the same but I used a piece of emt instead of pvc.

I am a lifestyles screen door rep for my area. You are correct that they are pricey. I have installed about a dozen of them in the last five years. They are quality made and work very nice.

I don't have a picture handy, but I bought the Home Depot ones for about $150 each.(Zipperless) Very nice quality except the cheap velcro it came with. Throw it away!

I had the idea to use long shower rods vertically on the sides to hold the tension but they were way expensive. I found brand new load bars on ebay super cheap and use them to tighten the four corners. They go up and come down easy.

It's so cool being in the shop at night during the buggy months and not having them inside. Get screens. You'll love them.

I bought a piece of sunshade for mine- the kind used for shading plants at a greenhouse. They're available in various degrees of light-filtering. If you get one with minimal filtering (larger holes), spray a coating of bug spray on it to keep the bugs out. I like the idea mentioned above about using the load bars for support.
